The Green Smoothie has been recommended to me as an energizing breakfast drink and a step for incorporating more veggies into our family's diet. Does anyone have any experiences with this? I am also looking for recipes, etc that might help my family get more veggies.:)

What can I do next?

Hi D.,
If you are desperate to lose weight, PLEASE consider trying Weight Watchers for a month! I have been on the program for over a year now and have lost 36 pounds (with a few more to go! *grin*)
I have tried a LOT of other plans out there, and here is why WW is the only one one that really works for me AND my family:
1) you just buy your own food, learning to make healthier choices for you and your family, even after your weight goal is reached.
2) YOU NEVER FEEL DEPRIVED!!!
3) You go at your own speed, at your own pace.
4) The classes(meetings) are all about SUPPORT so that you SUCCEED!! If you have any problem you ask your leader, and she will have all kinds of suggestions and solutions for you!
If you register online, it's only 39.99 a month (by the month); one of the most reasonable plans going!!
If you'd like to talk to me about it, feel free to call me at ###-###-####.Oh~ and I am just a member, not a promoter or employee of WW!
Good luck!

Mmmmmm, I love a good green smoothie! :P

I make a great one for my hubby and me for our breakfast, and here it is. :)

In a blender, add...

1 tomato, chunked
1 cucumber, chunked
1 carrot, chunked
1/2 a green pepper, chunked
1 stalk of celery, chunked
1 avocado, de-pitted and pealed
a handful of spring greans, or spinach, or fav lettuce
juice of half a lemon or a lime
1c water
a handful of ice cubes
a good pinch of sea salt, to taste (it's good for you)
and, if you want an extra boost, add a scoop of your favorite greens product... I use Core Greens(just ask for more info)

Wizz it all up until liquefied, pour and enjoy! This recipe will make 2 large servings. It will be the freshest and most substantial veggie cocktail you've ever had... and the avocado makes it smooth while also adding super healthy fats that we all need. You can add more water if you like it thinner, but I like it thick... gives it chewability. :)

Enjoy!
L. :)

My son can detect a veggie from a mile away and would normally refuse to eat anything if we tried to make him eat a vegetable. Lately though, he's been braver and trying more foods with veggies in them (even though he usually stops after the first bite). A couple of new recipes that he actually ate several bites of are: spinach spanakopita and spinach lasagna. Spinach seems to be fairly easy to hide b/c it softens up well and spreads out easily. I use reduced fat cheese in those two recipes. I recently bought a Magic Bullet food chopper/processor. Yesterday he gobbled up nachos with melted velveeta cheese with fresh spinach blended into it. When he inquired about the green specks, I told him it was special spices (just a little white lie). I wish I had splurged and bought the more expensive unit with the juice extractor attachment, b/c that would have been a good way to blend in veggies with fruit to make fresh juice.

These tips are by no means a comprehensive dietary plan (obviously). They are just my latest attempts to get some veggie nutrients into my son. It certainly takes creativity!
Goodluck!

Hi D.,
Check out www.GoFigure8.com It's Arbonne's weight loss/maintenance program. The shakes are vegetable based and the recipes are endless. I started the shakes on New Year's and have lost 15lbs. I look forward to one everyday. The shakes are perfect for everyone in my family. I have three hockey players that don't like to eat a huge meal before a game so they enjoy this option. I love the fact that it's a healthy choice packed with great ingredients.

Contact me with any questions you may have.
Good luck,
K.

This is an AMAZING way to get your kid his/her greens. This is the only way my (now) 18 month old will get in any greens--and she actually likes drinking them. Mostly, I spoon feed her to avoid a big mess--but when she seems a litttle fussy, I just add more fruit, and she loves to drink them with me. I have found that this was the only way that i could loose weight(moderate bc i only do once in am--would be better if i did 2x/day) and get healthy at the same time--but i have been steadily losing weight. And this is the first time I've actually had a lifestyle change. I tried the green pwoder drinks, (and diets) but could nver take the taste or cost enough to do this long term. And it's actually really easy. Just grab a handful of leafy greens, throw in some fruit, water--and blend. I don't think i've ever used a recipe. I met the kids from the family in the book--and they're all great--vibrant, energetic, and calm. Also, it just makes since--its raw fresh veggies made palatable. My favorite combo is raspberry, banana and red chard. I told my bf about this bc i was blown away and she's doing it now, too. My friend likes cilantro, kale and pear. Another i liked was spinach, pineapple and pear. Plus, to keep the integrity of the fruit--i just throw in the whole fruit except the seeds if i can get them. SO like with strawberries, throw in with green "hats" on--the green part is very safe and a great nutritional source of more greens. (THis was suggested by sergei--the son of the author--to get the whole fruit). Been doing this for 4 months now--and have probably missed like 3 days (including overnight travel). Becuase it's been essential for me to feel good and have energy throughout the day. Good luck and feel free to post again if you have any questions!

Hi D.
You sound like me two years ago.
I found a weight loss product called Slimplicity that has helped me lose 35 pounds and 27 inches and I have kept it off for 15 months. It is safe and has NO SIDE EFFECTS--you know- like alot of other products out there today.
In addition, there is a childrens product called Kids Now that has all the nutrients your children need and has had DHA in it for the last 6 years. There are lots of recipes that make the kids want to take it and it comes in chocolate and Vanilla. I take it as it is great for focus and clear thinking in anyone!! It helps with ADD and ADHD, too.
LEt me know how I can help!

I agree with Joanne about Slimplicity and the Kids Now. If you can't get the green smoothie into them, talk to her about recipes for the delicious shakes. Takes the worry out of "eat your vegetables"! You want to be sure what you are taking is safe, and that it's manufactured under strict quality control (with ingredients tested when they come into the plant, quarantined, formulated, and tested again -- all in one facility). After all the terrible salmonella outbreaks and tainted foods from companies taking shortcuts, you want a top food science company. I've taken the same product Joanne's talking about, and my friends have their kids on the "Now". I'll never switch back to my old supplements.

Hi D., If you're looking for a drink to help you with getting more vegetables into your diet, I'd recommend the Market America product called Complete Greens. It comes in either powder (that you can mix into any drink or smoothie) or in tablet form. My husband hates most vege's and he drinks this daily for a well rounded diet. You can read more about it or purchase it on www.marketamerica.com/sherwood or you're welcome to call me about it at ###-###-####. Yours in health, D.

This will rock your world. My 24 month old has been eating these for a year. She likes making them with me. Sometimes she likes more apple, it just depends on how bitter the spinach is that day.

1 bunch of spinach, cleaned, keep the stems too please
2 apples (no seeds, they contain arsenic)
a squirt of lemon, preferably from a lemon (opt)
2 stalks of celery
1/2 cucumber
small thumbnail section of ginger, skin removed. (this is especially important in the winter when your body needs more warming foods- adjust to your taste, some people like spicy)

run through a juicer.
If you want, use this as an opportunity to add some flax oil on top, or hemp oil (full spectrum of proteins & has the Omega 3's).

Enjoy.
