My daughter has been having bright green poopy diapers for the last 5 days or so. I don't think its anything she's eaten - the last green thing she had was last week when she ate peas. And its not diarrhea. She's not acting like she's sick. Could it be related to the fact that she is cutting teeth? Is this something I should be concerned about?
Kid poop comes in all colors. The only colors you need to be concerned about are bright red (could have an anal tear), black tarry (internal bleeding) and I mean BLACKER THEN BLACK, not just dark dark brown, or chalky white (no bile in their gut to digest food).
Everything else... orange, green, brown ... all ok.
Once I gave my daughter grape peadialyte and it resulted in bright green poop. Also Blue moon ice cream will cause it too- according to my husband

Most of the time green poo is a sign of too much iron in the diet. Think of what foods she has had that contain iron.

It could be the teething. Another thing, if you've given her grape color/flavored Koolaid - or any artificially colored purple drink (icees, etc) it can turn the BM a neon green. Wierd huh? S.

Sometimes different foods can cause this and sometimes it`s a virus or infection coming on.

As long as your daughter's poop is brown, yellow or green (even flourescent green) it's OK.

In my experience, even foods that start out purple can result in green poops. That alone shouldn't be alarming as long as you are not seeing other symptoms. Be more concerned about consistency, frequency (or lack of) and gastric symptoms such as vomiting, excessive gas, nausea, etc.

Has she eaten any type of fruit snacks or koolaid type drink? My kids always had weird looking colored poopys when they ate those things. First time it was a bit freaky but then when we identified the fruit snacks, it made sense.

Blue food, like blueberries can do that. Or anything with blue dye, like fruit snacks, etc.

Blue yogurt does it for my girls. However, if you are sure it isn't something she has eaten and you are still concerned, there is no harm in calling the doctor and asking what they think. It is better to ask than be anxious about it.
Let us know what you find out!

My 3 girls sometimes poop green but I really can't remember bright green. Has she been eating more fruit, sometimes this causes acids and may be result of bright colored poop. Teething does cause some weird looking and smelling poop as well. If she isn't acting sick and everything seems fine with her, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Sometimes cereal such as Trix will cause this. The dye in the product goes right through their system. It could be a green vegetable that caused it also.

Hi H.,
Our little guy has that very often - I think it is his yogurt. Even though it's not green itself it seems to come our green.
Best of Luck to you, L. S.

Hi,
Has she been drinking grape Kool-Aid or grape drinks? This has happened before when my children have (on rare occasion) drank grape soda.
Hope this helps.

That is a sign of diarrhea, and also what she could be eating. Keep her hydrated.

I had this problem when my oldest one was young. If you give them anything purple it makes the poop green. My friends mom who is a RN told me. Just keep an eye on her.

Is she taking any vitamins or supplements? Sometimes these things turn poop/pee different colors. Also, if you've been giving her ice pops or popscicles (I have especially because of the heat)the dyes in these items may be causing this change.

As long as she's not having loose stools or blood in her stool, it's most likely no big deal. And with my kids, it's actually blue foods that make their poop that bright green color, ie: blueberries, blue yogurt, etc.

The only time my children have had bright green poop is after eating blue moon or superman ice cream or some type of cereal with blue dye (like the marshmallows in Lucky Charms). But that would only last a day or two at the most unless she is eating it every day.
