B..
Alexis is correct, the food is TERRIBLE!!! And, it will cost you an arm and a leg for a cardboard pizza. We prefer the Gaylord. We can find better deals on rooms there, and the customer service is SO much better.
Has anyone been to the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine? I would like to know more about your experiences and if it is worth the drive.

Stop by the bank on the way there...... it's EXPENSIVE!
I also much prefer The Gaylord, but I don't like indoor waterparks. There is a small outdoor area, but most of it is indoor. The Gaylord is wonderful, though, and it's right across the street. There is tons to do in Grapevine, but I would wait until Christmas to visit.
We have gone twice. Grandma fits the bill for the location and I pay for the food and entertainment once we are there. Pricy, yes. Worth it, heck yes. I love water parks (indoor or out) love chilling out and playing with my kiddos. Both times it has been winter so outside has been closed, but we are planning a later spring trip this year due to my mom's travleing schedule (oh the life a retiree;))
Looking forward to spending time in the sunshine.
Food is not all bad. the sunday morning brunch is pretty amazing (cream cheese and lox!!) and the dinner place upstairs is good, too. The pizza and stuff near the arcade is kind of dumpy.
I do love the gaylord, but not for my kids. They like it if we are there for ICE and that is it.
Have fun either way!
We went to GWL in Kansas City a few years ago. The kids really loved it. It IS expensive, and the food is...meh. But you're there for the waterpark, right?
I enjoyed being able to sit out poolside and have a few drinks. The kids loved running all over the place. They slept great every night.
They still ask about it occasionally.
We love Great Wolf Lodge. We go at least once every year. We do take our own food, the rooms have fridges and microwaves. It is costly, but honestly, can you go to just a waterpark for less? I doubt it, not for the time you get in the park. It is less expensive in the "off-season" which has just ended.
My children are way too small but I have heard good things about it. However, like Jim mentions below, it is expensive and I have heard the food is terrible. From the people I know who have gone, their children (ages 7 and up) had a terrific time. The entire place is geared for kids so it was perfect for these families even though it was exhausting for the parents. Of the people I know who have gone, there have been repeat visitors so it must be worth the cost and drive from Houston. Good luck.
A ton of fun but very overpriced!
Great question, we want to try it out too! I can say the Wild Oak Ranch in San Antonio is EXCELLENT!!!! check it out if that's a possible option for you:)
We had a fantastic time! We have been twice - both times, in the off-season. The indoor waterpark is a big draw for us - our kids get a five-day weekend in February (are you LISD, too, and get the same break?), so that is just perfect for something like this.
At first blush, the hotel looks quite expensive - I admit, I don't know what the prices are regularly - but the nightly fee includes your waterpark admission, too. And it is a full waterpark - it's not just a hotel with an indoor pool. Also, if you want just a quick stay, you can get into the waterpark as early as 1pm on the day you check-in (even though rooms are not guaranteed available until 3). Bring a back with things to change into - there are well-equipped dressing rooms in the water park area. You also have admission into the waterpark until 9pm the day you check out. So the first time we went, we stayed just one night, but got almost two full days from the waterpark. Certainly enough to wear the kids out!
The food is quite expensive. My suggestion would be to bring snacks, and as someone has already pointed out, there are mini fridges and microwaves - we took our own snacks, bottled water and sodas, and easy breakfast foods, and skipped paying for breakfasts and snacks while we were there. As for other food, while the facility is geared toward you not having to leave, you can leave and come back, and there is a mall just down the road, with all of the fast food restaurants you would expect to see clustered around a mall (Chick-Fil-A, Whataburger, etc).
There is also a game the kids can play, that is geared mostly toward older kids. Magiquest - the kids can buy "magic wands" that will interact with quite a few of the pictures and statues around the hotel (there will be kids running all up and down the stairwells to find their "treasures"). The end result, I believe, is that after you have collected all of the necessary items (the memory is stored in the "wand"), you can "fight the dragon." (Which is a digital game on a giant screen. This game is quite expensive - the wands are around $15 each, and admission to the game is another $15. However, we learned that you can purchase the wands, and they will still interact with most of the items without officially entering the game (it won't save your progress, though, so you can't fight the dragon) - our kids are younger and weren't ready for a mission anyway, so we bought them the wands, which they can also use the next time we go, and skipped paying for game admission.
Yes, but the food and activities not included in the room/waterpark price are EXPENSIVE. I would not go without extra money and a plan.
We have gone around 10 times so we like it, but the first time would have been our last if money were an issue.
