Yes, if it is not functioning it will cause more problems. That being said,
I would definitely get a second opinion. My DIL who is in her last month of
pregnancy was told her baby has an enlarged kidney. When she is born
we will go one step at a time. May be a problem maybe not. Time will tell.

I would consult with a pediatric nephrologist and urologist. If she needs the
surgery make sure you have it at a childrens hospital. Please keep us
posted. Hugs and prayers out to you.

Is the hospital you are taking her to a children's hospital? If not, call the nearest children't hospital and get ahold of their pediatric nephrologist and tell him you need a 2nd opinion. They are very good at what they do.

I'm so sorry you and your family are going through this.

I would get a 2nd AND 3rd opinion before do this to my FOUR WEEK old....and do it somewhere like UCLA. NOT another local doc in Yucaipa.

Oh, wow - I don't have any medical advice to offer, but I am thinking of you and sending you love. You are one strong mama. I recommend getting getting a second (and third) opinion. Take detailed notes at doctors appointments and move forward with someone you trust.

Welcome to mamapedia!!!

I'm not a doctor. This is something you need to talk with multiple DOCTORs about - especially nephrologist...here is a list of nephrologists in your area.

they can help you make the right decision for your daughter. If the kidney is not functioning properly - her little body will work harder to make up for it. They may be able to put her on the kidney transplant list. Who knows. ASK SEVERAL doctors. TAKE NOTES. Do your own research.

ETA: I can tell you that Loma Linda Medical Center is GREAT!! that's where my daughter was born.

My son had emergency surgery when he was only 36 hours old, so I understand how you are feeling. We had no opportunity to explore our options or select a different surgeon. However, we were at CHOC and felt we were in good hands for the region. He had to have 2 additional surgeries and I had time to research doctors. We did change surgeons. Is this surgery urgent? If you have time to get a 2nd or 3rd opinion, do so! Loma Linda Children's Hospital is highly regarded, so take some comfort in that. Sending you good thoughts and prayers!!! Be strong for your baby girl and let family & friends help and support you! I know it's scary to have a baby go through a surgery, but they heal very quickly. My son is turning 5 on the 27th and it's hard for me to remember all we went through... it's such a distant memory. Hugs to you!
