I just had a baby girl four weeks ago. The problem is we just moved from Kansas to Golden. I have a five year old daughter who has a birthday coming up and no friends to invite. She left behind a ton of friends and the transition has been very hard for her. Not only has she had to adjust to a new member of the family, but she has no one her age to play with. It has been tough finding playgroups. If anyone has any existing playgroups or is interested in starting a new one I would love to hear from you!!!

What can I do next?

Hi L.. I live in Golden and have a 3 year old son and am expecting a little girl on July 2. I would love to get a playgroup together with you. I will probably only be able to meet a couple of times before the baby's born, but after she comes, it would be nice to have a friend with kids about the same age. Let me know!

She is dealing with a lot of change! I don't know of any play groups but would get her into the summer reading program at the library and see if there are any day camps for her to meet some friends. Go to the park and let her meet some kids around the niehborhood. You might go to her school and talk to the teacher to see if she knows any girls her age that you could set up play dates with.

I would let her call her friends and write letters to them to keep in touch. Maybe a visit over the summer would help too.

Hi L.!
Welcome to Colorado! Unfortunately, my son is only 7 months old. But, I would recommend checking out www.momsclub.org and www.meetup.com. I am in the MOMS Club for the sister chapter to the one you qualify for, and the women in the group are great! On meetup.com there is a group called Arvada and the West Moms, I'm a member and love it! This group has lots of kids all your kids ages! Good luck!

Hi. I was sort of in your situation last July when we moved to Denver from Pennsylvania, having only a few friends in the area. I was also 35.5 weeks pregnant. When Bella was born last Aug I started researching mom groups so I could meet ppl and so one day Bella would have friends to play with. If you go to www.meetup.com and research groups in Golden, I'm sure you will find something. There are a ton in the Denver area, but that might be too far for you to travel. I'm 31 years old and I stay at home as well. I'd love to get together one day and I have friends who have a one year and then another friend who has a three year old. Maybe we can all do a playdate? You can email me at ____@____.com

Have a nice day,
P.

I second the meetup.com! I have met so many wonderful women through that sight who have literally saved my sanity! I know for a fact there is a Golden meetup group and there are a ton of wonderful, nice women and children in it. I believe there are one or two stay at home dads too who are super nice! I would also recommend looking into a MOPS program. It doesn't start till fall, but it would be another nice way to meet moms. If you are interested, I am the Co-Coordinator of the West Bowles Community Church group and would love to answer any questions. Feel free to email me ____@____.com luck and welcome to Colorado!

I would check out meetup.com, there is a great group of naturally minded parents called the Golden Natural Mammas and Papas that I would highly recommend. Hillary is the leader of the group and she is wonderful. I was a member in the past but no longer have the time to travel to Golden. They do a variety of activities from kid friendly coffee houses, playgrounds, hikes, potlucks, walks...

Welcome to Colorado & congratulations on the birth of your new baby!

There is a playgroup that meets almost every Wednesday (not on holiday weeks) at Foothills Bible Church (in the SHED building gym). They meet from 9:30-11:30am. Bring your own toys & meet other moms with children from infant to 5 years old. Foothills Bible Church is at 6100 South Devinney Way, 80127, take C470 to the Bowles Avenue exit & turn west on to Bowles Avenue, south on Devinney Way & left on to campus to the SHED gym, building south of main building). The drive shouldn't be more than 15 minutes from Golden. No cost. Let me know if you have any questions.

Have you had a chance to contact any of the preschools? I would think they would have some referances and/or ideas. My daughter's day care is quite a ways from Golden. We belong to the 1st Methodist church in Golden. They may have some
references for you. They are at 1500 Ford Street in Golden.
