Going Through Perimenopause

Is there anyone out there who is going through perimenopause who may have found something over the counter that helps with suppressing the appetite and weight loss? I have exercised more, changed my diet (without depriving myself completely), tried new interests to keep my mind sharp, changed when I eat, and don't want to go to the doctor for hormone treatments. Too much caffeine makes me sick. I've seen how much trouble my mom has had trying to get the right prescription and gaining weight because of it. I want to do it as natural as possible, but this weight gain is really bringing me down.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I have been trying the Estrin-D and also changed my multivitamin. I do have more energy, and I'm not struggling with the depression like I was. Overall, I feel better, but I also have more trouble sleeping at night and get up more often to go to the bathroom. Part of that is from trying to drink more water, part of that is from the caffeine in the Estrin-D. I've read about the adrenal gland and stress, so I'm thinking more towards that being the issue. I am once again trying to rearrange the eating habits and still haven't given up on exercise.

I lost over 30 pounds using Dr. Phil's "Weightloss Solution Cookbook". It teaches you the correct way to eat for the rest of your life. It is not hard to do and you will feel and look so much better. There are three stages to it. I went from a size 10 to a size 6 and I am over 50! You can do it. Something that is absolutely delicious to drink is Crystal light Peach Tea or the Crytal light raspberry pink lemonade instead of all those sugary soft drinks. God Bless and take care. Dr. Phil's book is the only thing that helped me and believe me I was having a very hard time losing.

Unfortunately your metabolism slows way down and the middle age spread wants to kick in. Over the counter meds you can go to GNC but alot of the appetite suppressors have caffeine in them. The best that helps me is from GNC their RELEASE formula is helpful it helps you burn fat without loosing muscle, try the CENSOR first because its not hard on your system but it maynot be enough to suppress appetite. If you have hypertension or heart problems I wouldnt recomend any of it. But I'm 43 went thru menopause when I was going thru a divorse so my metabolism is really screwed up after gaining and loosing the best thing to do is step up your exercise a notch or two. You'll see instant results if you havent exercised already just start with the stuff you know from gym class to get yourself ready to find a video or class you want to join. If your having hot flashes Avon has a lotion that works pretty good it has that black cohash in it you can also buy that as a supplement. With the menopause talk to your doctor because we stop producing all the proteins and calcium that keeps our skin and bones young. I never took hormone my hot flashes are few now and I never took hormones but my doctor told me to boost my calcium. If you take those over the counter meds only do it long enough to get a boost on your weight loss, truly exercise like you wash your face and brush your teeth.

Find yourself an Arbonne representative. They have a hormone cream that is wonderful. They have two and I can't remember the difference between them but it's natural and worth a try. You might be able to go to their website and order it as well.

Good luck,

i do not have this particular problem but i do suppress my appetite naturally, i add mint oil to water, drink diet carbonated beverages and add extra pepper to what i do eat, the pepper activates the stomach lining making you full faster, mint oil is a natural energizer and suppressant, and well you know about carbonated beverages

Hi S.,
I read your question and I called my mom. She is also going through Perimenopause. She says to use Estrin-D, its in a teal and white bottle. My mother also says that not only does it help with some weight control but it also helps control those mood swings you are going to have if you haven't gotten them already. She didn't remember how much they were but she gets her pills at Wal-Mart so you know they can't be all that expensive. She also takes Black-Cohosh (not sure if thats the spelling but thats how it sounds) and she says it helps with those ugly hot flashes while helping you sleep. Just thought I would share this stuff with you. Good Luck

Hey S., Contact Dr. Keele at Cape Family Practice. He does Hormone replacement therapy. You will feel like yourself againg. Going through changes because our hormones begin to deplete after replacing them you will feel great and lose the weigth. At least give him a call.
