Going Ringworm CRAZY!!

My 2 year old daughter got ringworm a month ago... I bought the $20 cream that's like the size of my cat's toe and it didn't work, it faded but not before spreading to her other leg. I'm getting beyond frustrated with this evil fungus from heck that as you can tell has made me overly dramatic. I tried to put apple cider vinegar on her tonight but she freaked out because it was wet (that's what she said anyways) so I just dabbed it on the ringworm instead of holding it there for five mins because she was balling and I was afraid it was stinging or something. I am at my wit's end with this fungus. Help me! I feel like she is going to have it for the rest of her life. (Like I said it's made me dramatic)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Where do you get green walnuts? you just rub them on or something?

Wow so many responses, thanks guys... I feel like I'm going crazy and she's worn so many clothes I'm going to buy a blacklight bulb for my lil lamp to search the rooms and clothing because I heard they give off a greenish color under it.

I took her to the doctor, that's who told me to get that $20 cream. The common athlete's foot cream. What the heck? Maybe if I take her back he'll give me an actual prescription cream.

I always keep it covered, long pants jammies and pants or leggings during the day because I don't want it to spread... it spread on her shoulder at one point but that cleared up fast (the two on her leg just don't want to go away). I want to get rid of this before it gets warm so she can wear shorts and stuff without ringworm because I don't feel good about letting her wear shorts with the ringworm there.

I am going to go down this list, starting with tea tree oil (I hear it the most is all) and then if that doesn't work go to the next thing... lost of helpful things on here.

I know maybe this seems like a ridiculous question, but since you didn't mention...have you taken her to the doctor?

If it were me, I would skip green walnuts (you never know what kind of reaction you're going to get, and personally, though I'm not allergic, they make me break out in a rash.) If it were my daughter, I'd take her RIGHT to the doctor and get a prescription strength antifungal cream.

Go to the doctor and get a prescription. Have you called and spoken with a nurse? I've had it and with a cream prescription, it went away.

Ringworm if not caught early can take a month or longer to go away. The anti fungal cream you need is the kind used for athletes foot. You can get a tube at walmart in their brand for like 98 cents. Use it 2 times a day until you can no longer see the ringworm. Like I said, this can take a month or longer but it is no longer contagious after a few treatments of the cream. You also need to look at where your child is playing. If she is in a sand box, that is a haven for ringworm especially if animals use it for a bathroom!! If the soil in your yard is sandy could be an area to look at too. If you have a sandbox at home, make sure it is always covered when not in use and don't let her play in public ones that aren't covered ever!!

Good luck and just let it take some time.

Ringworm is caused by the exact same fungus as athletes' foot (and most women's yeast infections, if I recall). What were you using? If it wasn't athlete's foot cream, I would go with that. Cheaper than the "ringworm" stuff.

Also make sure to wash regularly, and watch her. She's probably poking/scratching at it, then touching elsewhere on her body. Try to keep this to a minimum. Ringworm spreads really easily.

My son got it and it kept spreading and took forever to go away. I used Melaleuca Oil on it and Melaleuca's renew lotion. Once the ringworm faded, I'd keep putting the lotion on it for about two weeks and it never came back. You just need to keep putting it on even after it's gone to be sure it's really gone. The same thing happened to my older daughter. I had to keep putting the lotion on for about a month after it disappeared because it kept reappearing. It finally went away in both of my kids. Good luck!!

it may not be ring worm. there is a rash that looks very similar to ring worm called pityriasis rosea. just google it and you will see what i mean. i have had it before and its a pain in the butt. anti-fungal creams dont do anything but make it a little softer, it needs a prescription.

Athlete's foot cream and cover it with a band-aid so it doesn't spread.

I would get a prescription... from the Ped.

Beware, yah as you know... ringworm can really spread... keep it covered... if scratched/itched, it can spread via the fingernails and all over the place.

My Dad.. once got it from our pet dog. But the Vet said, HE gave it to the dog.
Anyway, it can spread.

My daughter got it from preschool when she was 4 and it seemed like it took FOREVER to go away and didn't respond to the prescription the doc gave us. I finally went with a combination of two treatments I had been told to try. I put Lotrimin (sp?) cream on it right before bed, and as soon as she got up, then right before we left for school (about an hour and a half later), I put clear nail polish all over it with a Q tip (clean one with each dip into the bottle as to not contaminate the bottle), then I put that on again when we got home. It would wash off in the bath before bed. It took about a week or so of this regimine, but it was the only thing that worked.

You have to use Bragg's Apple Cider vinegar with The Mother or it won't work.

It does sting if you put it on straight, so that's probably why she was crying before. It stings for a minute, then it goes away.

Fill the bathtub up with warm water so it just covers her legs and add a cup of apple cider vinegar to that and let her soak.If you do the bath it won't sting, and she probably won't even notice it. Let her soak for about 15 minutes, it's okay if it gets in her privates and stuff because it can also be used that same way if she had a yeast infection.

Do it once a day, it will be gone before you know it! Good luck!

Take her to the doctor to get a prescription. My hubby had ring worm years ago and it spread like crazy, after trying many things, the prescription cream took care of it. If for some reason you can't take her to the doctor maybe try one of those clinics at walgreens or HEB. We have had luck with blue star ointment and costs around 5 bucks.

We've had this problem... and it's super contagious. Ring worm + 3 kids = HELL. Use a regular OTC antifungal 2x daily on the spots, and KEEP THEM COVERED!! Wash everything, clothes, linens, bath towels, everything she's come in contact with. But most of all, keep the antifungal cream on and keep it covered. If it's not better within 7-10 days take her to a dermatologist. Hope it gets better soon!

Tea tree oil!! I know it's wet, but put some on several times a day and it should go away. Tea tree oil kills fungus, bacteria, and germs. It costs around $7-$10 and you can get it at drugstores or WalMart in the vitamin aisle. Be SURE to get 100% tea tree oil!

Athletes foot cream. However, the fungus may also now be on the child's clothing, sheets, towels and other favorite spots that the affected skin has been touching. Do a major laundering of these things over the weekend, then continue the cream. Sunlight also helps for the affected skin or fabric.

Get athletes foot cream from the grocery store. That's the only way we've ever stopped ringworm.
