Girls 7Th Birthday Party Idea

We live outside of Chicago. It seems like a lot of people have done the Pump It Up/Monkey Joes, Gymnastics Academy, Home Tea/Garden Party, etc. I know we could do a pottery place, but I kind of feel like we've DONE THAT when it comes to a lot of these places.

It's my daughter's golden birthday this year. So I'm looking to do something really fun. Any ideas?

I'd rather have fewer kids and ensure they have a lot of fun, instead of a big (whole class) party where no one even spends time with our birthday girl.

I'm not sure if we're up for a sleep over yet. I thought of a "camping party" or "movie night", but my husband things it will be too late to keep 7yr olds up since it won't be dark until after 9pm.

Her birthday is right after the 4th of July weekend, so it will be sunny all day and late into the evening.

I'd appreciate your suggestions!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your wonderful suggestions. We're going to do the "normal" thing and go to a pottery place with a group. THEN, for her special treat, we're going to send a book to a couple of friends, Beazus and Ramona with an invitation attached to the top to go to a viewing party in August. This gives the girls a chance to read the book, then we'll take her best friends to the new movie, complete with chauffer (me), popcorn and drinks. I think we'll have them dress fancy too!

Thanks for all your ideas! I will definitely be using more of them in years to come!

have it at a "paint your own pottery" place.
If you have one in your area.
Kids LOVE that.
My girl is 7, she loves it, and we've had 2 of her b-day parties there. It was her choice.

I'm not sure if you've done that yet? I wasn't sure per your post.
But it is fun.

OR, take your girl and a few friends to the movies. Matinee.

good luck,
Susan

I have friends who take their daughters and a few friends to the "spa" for their birthday where they get their nails/toes done, get their hair done, you know, fun girly stuff. Some places have birthday packages that aren't too unreasonable and some will even come to your home.

We went to two parties at Petland on Golf Road in Schaumburg and my daughter loved it! First they gave tours of the fish, then the birthday girl got to pick two animals to play with. The kids had cake and presents in the back room. At first I thought it was silly, but she loved it!

Last year we did a Princess Party where everyone dressed up like princesses. This year we are doing a Rocker party where everyone dresses up like rock stars. We'll be doing Karaoke and stuff.

Her 7th birthday we went to Brookfield Zoo. I made a picnic lunch and cupcakes and we had a picnic and presents on the lawn. She invited just her best friends and they had a blast looking at the animals. They spent the most time in the kids' zoo part, dressing up like animals and getting their faces painted.

To be honest my daughter has had the most fun just hanging around and playing with her besties. You don't have to get elaborate to make it special!

I just had my daughter's 7th birthday party last weekend. We had a Luau party at my house. Combination of indoor and outdoor. There were a total of 16 children (4 of those were 2 and younger). Most of the children came dressed up and we gave each of them a lei. We had hula hoop contest, limbo, musical chairs, make your own volcanos. It was a great time. I made some themed food too. Let me know if you want more info.

Does your daughter have a favorite movie character? Like the princess in the disney movies? Have a "special" party where everyone comes dressed as their fav. and if you want to show the movie you could but that takes a lot of time and 7 yr olds don't really sit still long. Have someone video tape them-in a parade around your house or the neighborhood. Is there someone who can dress up as someone else from that movie and pay a visit to the party? Maybe bring a pony-like the handsome prince with his ride-then the kids can all take a ride-everyone gets this! Now if that is too expensive or not one you could do in your neighborhood-what about doing a quick play in their costumes-you set it up so there is no fighting and be sure to film and then you might want to make copies for all the kids.(later/deliver to their families) Make sure the cake is decorated to match the theme. Now if this does not do it---how about a competition of games in the yard? Like ball toss into a mouth of something your daughter has decorated before, twister is still fun-with a grown-up always on call to avoid any fights, timed swinging for hight or fast, again a grown-up leader, and races-3-legged or whatever you like (blindfolds, carrying a raw egg in a plastic spoon-messy but lots of fun, best of all whistle race-start by eating a cracker-no drink then run to the other side and whistle-don't be too close-it is messy too-again lots of fun. Hope some of these will work if not now save for another time. And don't forget girl scouts later in school...

Ok, this one is super messy but loads of fun and very memorable!! My daughter attended a 6 year old party at the YMCA and they called it an Ooey Gooey party. You can do this in your own backyard.

Have the guests wear swimsuits and bring a towel. Here are some of the activities they did:

1.) Duck Duck Goose with a handful of whipped cream. When it was time for "Goose" the girl with the whipped cream squished it on the head of the goose.

2.) Jello Food Fight - Give the girls individuals cups of jello and let them go!

3.) Ice Cream Pass - Buy the bricks of ice cream and take them out of the carton still in a a brick. The girls line up and the first one passes the brick over her head to the person behind who then passes it between her legs to the person behind her. Continue until the brick has melted.

4.) Build an ice cream sundae - ask for a volunteer. The other guests start building an ice cream sundae on the volunteer. Ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, caramel, cherries on top....

5.) Hose everyone off and let them have a water fight.

Seriously, this was by far the most fun party my daughter ever went to and watching was just as much fun for the parents!!

Good luck,
K.

A couple ideas:
My 8YOs and their friends love doing crafty stuff so I found a bunch of recycled-paper craft ideas from familyfun.com and other online sources and set out a bunch of supplies on a folding table in the backyard.

A few of their friends have done "not-quite-slumber parties" where the guests come in their jammies with a pillow and blanket at around 5 p.m., watch a movie and eat pizza and popcorn, but the parents pick them up at around 8 p.m. One mom had the movie on their TV in the den and in the dining room set out some hair accessories - curlers, hair ties and clips, etc. - so the girls who didn't want to watch the movie could do up their hair. You could do a "not-quite-camping" party where the kids make s'mores and tell ghost stories and sing camp songs but get picked up at around 8. If you do either of these kinds of things, just make sure the parents are clear that it's a "Faux sleepover" or "faux campout" and that pickup time is that evening :-)
