Ideas Needed for 4 Year Old Daughter's Birthday

So we just had a "pirate and Princess party" for my daughter who just turned 5. I found foamy princess tiaras at hobby lobby and bought the princess tea set foamy stickers. then i got make your own pirate hat from oriental trading company. all of the kids got to make their own hat when they first got there. this gave them something to do while waiting for all of the guests. We played duck duck goose, pin the tail on the donkey and "music bump" where you dance around while music is playing when it stops sit down on the floor as fast as you can. the last one to sit down is out. This was hilarious! I also had some balloons blown up for the kids to play with. we went on a treasure hunt (found an adorable treasure hunt kit at pottery barn kids on sale for $8). then we did cake and presents and they ran around and played some more and then went home. There are lots of things you could do along those lines! For one of my children's parties at 4 years old I did a party much like the circus one described in your other response and it worked out GREAT!!

If you're willing to consider a party outside your home, you should look into doing the Heard Natural Scienc Museum in McKinney. They have live exotic animals outside, amphibians and reptiles inside, and a live butterfly exhibit until Sept 28, where you get to walk in a screened pavilion full of butterflies. We just went today with my daughther, who LOVED it, and there were lots of other kids there, too, having a blast. They have a room where they'll do parties. See: http://www.heardmuseum.org/

Have you heard of the Critterman? He brings various critters to your house and shows them to the kids. They get to touch some of them. He just came to my house for my son's 5th bday. It was a great party, if I do say so myself! He really does a good job of making it age appropriate. He is so entertaining for the kids, you don't have to do much else besides cake and ice cream. My son had the Squirm Factor package, but there are furry critters girls might like better. His website is critterman.com. Good luck!

My daughter is turning 4 in September also. We like princesses so much at our house, we're having a princess dress-up party. I contacted the Simply Pretend folks, because they got such good reviews on this site.

The other ideas I had before I settled on this one were a circus theme, a ballerina theme, and a party at the zoo. For the ballerina theme, my daughter's dance teacher will host a party with games for your child either in her studio or at your home. She's also reviewed on this site--Amanda Dalton with AD Dance.

A circus party might be fun for you, because your daughter loves animals so much. I had planned to do some sort of fake tent outside with streamers and have the kids try to walk a tightrope (streamer laid flat on the ground), pin the nose on the clown, maybe have a carnival-type game tossing bean bags or rings or some sort of relay race where the kids pop balloons, and serve popcorn and cotton candy as well as a circus-themed cake. (The Wilton beginners' clown cake is really easy and very cute.) You could incorporate some sort of animal theme with a circus and put all sorts of stuffed animals around for decoration.

I second the Heard Museum Idea, My 3 year old had his last birthday there and LOVED IT. the parents said it was the best party they had ever been to. We booked it through them and had a room and host and got a private animal experience. It was a blast...
