Girl Panties That Don't Ride Up

Unfortunately, my eight-year-old daughter has inherited by body type, with a big, round rear. This means that, like me, she's plagued with panties that ride up. It doesn't help going up a size or two. For me, I've had luck with Soma's Vanishing Edge panties, because they have a sticky material to hold them flat that keeps them from riding up on me.

I've tried various sizes and styles of Hanes, Target's Exhilaration brand and Fruit of the Loom for our daughter with no luck. Boyshorts? Ride up, too.

I'm going to take her to Soma tomorrow to see if she might fit in their XS panties for women in the Vanishing Edge style, but wondered if anyone had luck with a children's brand? I'm sick of wasting money on panties that disappoint and we really need to put an end to the wedgies fast because it's not so pretty when she's dealing with them during soccer games.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions! Thongs aren't really an option, since not only do they cause infections, they give a permanent wedgie feeling, so she'd just pull at them like her current panties. I ended up buying a pair of the XS Soma Vanishing Edge panties today, because we have a Soma store close by. They seemed to fit her ok over her current panties. Going to test them out with soccer practice on Wednesday and should know pretty quickly if they're a winner. If not, I'm going to go through the suggestions listed below for additional brands. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!

Both my daughter and I have the same problem. I started wearing boy shorts from Hanes and I love them! My dd loves hers as well. The long legs seem to really help. Good luck!

She should fit just fine into the X-Small adult.

Girls size 8-10 is almost exactly the same size as an adult X-Small. An adult Small is the same as a girls 12-14 and an adult medium is smaller or nearly the same as a girls 14-16.

Girls have the same measurements except they don't have the breasts yet. The don't have the fully rounded hips from childbearing either.

So, when fitting kiddo with tween sizes both girls and smaller women's sizes should fit them. BUT watch for the darts and thigh high cut stuff. Also women's armholes can sometimes be cut large.

It's really easy to get a good fit if you just pick the styles that are less structured and fitted.

I swear by the boy shorts style. They are a lot longer than regular girl-cut underwear and I never, ever have to worry about them riding up. I found Delta Burke boy shorts at an outlet mall. but you can buy them off of Amazon. They make this style for little girls, and depending on what she is wearing on top, my 9 year old daughter loves them, too. I will say, though, that material and brand do matter. Hanes had a fantastic style for a while, and then "improved" them. They are now awful. They stretch out, and then that makes them ride up. The Delta Burke ones are stretchy and seamless, so they stay in place and hug your booty all day. I even wear them to workout classes and don't have to worry about coverage under my shorts because they stay in place that well. You should try a few pairs yourself, and then find something similar for your daughter once you see what works for you (since you are so similarly built). Good luck!

the only ones we ever found that didn't do that were brief style made out of 100% cotton. no nylon panties and definitly not highcut or bikini styles. just plain old briefs. you can get them in multiple colors patterns now which is nice. fruit of the loom or hanes

Hannah Anderson! A little pricey but they are so soft and comfortable and they hold up so well.

Try the boy shorts panties at Justice. My daughter has a lot of luck with them, the lycra also helps to keep them from riding up. I find them ridiculously expensive, but get them on clearance whenever I can. This weekend they are having a 40% plus 20% sale.

Although NOT girl's, you can buy the smaller size.. in which case, I like Macy's brand, Alfani... they don't ride up... they don't have seams... and although NOT 100% cotton, they are still comfy...
often, Macy's will have a sale on them... I get the bikini style.. it's not too skimpy while the other cuts are either too much so OR too much coverage, the bikini are perfect for me..
you could get a pair and see what you think.. Also, if not Alfani, you could look at other styles... again, just buy them in the smaller size and they should fit your daughter.. gotta say, the JLO brand might be good... the less skimpy ones seem to be styled for her body type.. which judging from what you said, might be a possible fit.. so check those out too..

best of luck to you..

Maybe not a solution for the eight year old, but I would recommend you wear a thong. Thongs certainly solve that problem.

A friend of mine with that body type says that the only style she can wear comfortably are thongs. See if you can find some thongs in her size.

For me I found that going down a size or two helps. What works are hipsters. Jockey is my favorite brand. I don't know if they make children's panties. Look for a style that fits snugly and has narrow leg openings. One reason hipsters may work better is because the waistline of jeans/pants does not fit over the waist of the panties causing the panties to shift as the pants' waisband shifts.
