Gift Ideas Needed!

This is an odd request, but I thought I'd try.... our anniversary is coming up, and my husband and I have a deal that we only get gifts for each other that fit into the lists of "traditional" anniversary gifts (makes it creative, saves some money!). We're at #7 this year, so our choices are copper, wool, and desk sets. Blech! I'm at a loss here, because my husband is certainly not a desk set person, not really into clothes, and not really into tools and such (that eliminates most wool and copper items). He's not terribly sentimental, but he does appreciate meaningful gifts. Any ideas??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

First, thanks for all of the great suggestions! I actually managed to find a picture frame with a strip of copper in it, and I found it, of all places, at an antique store in town. I figured that covered copper and desk sets, sort of. Also, as a joke, I picked up an ugly fish-shaped gelatin mold (also at the antique store) and made a jello salad with it, which was.... well, ugly, but funny. Thanks for all the help!!

Does he like to cook? You can get some great copper kitchen things. I think they even have copper bookends and such - though they may be pricey. Although you couldn't really use it now, you could get him a nice wool throw or something to snuggle up under with him this winter.

Good luck!

Does he like jewelry? There are some wonderful copper bracelets for men. Also, I've seen many copper plaques or statuettes, aka nic-nac(but don't say that to him) such as a soldier, or baseball player.

Also, you could give him a wool blanket that you have your picture put on. My cousin did this and he said that it was the best gift her fiance ever got. It takes some time to do that though.

As far as the desk set goes, you could do a variation on a theme. Don't give him the boring pens, organizer, etc. Instead, you could have pictures of you and your son made, put them in a frame and give them to put on his desk. Then he will have a "desk set" of pictures. (I know that's kinda corny, but you get the idea.)

Good luck.

How about a copper fire pit for your back yard or if he likes to cook copper pots or kitchen gadgets. Copper is really popular right now as far as home accessories. Or how about dipping your babies shoes in copper? going out there.

There is an old 1957 movie called Desk Set with Spencer Tracy that you could watch together.
Also, you can get a copper door knocker engraved with your family name on it and they also make copper frames and trinket boxes. There is also a website called justpaperroses.com that your husband may want to check out - they make wool roses - odd but at least you won't get a wool sweater in July!!

Congratulations on your anniversary! How about planting a tree?
My husband and I just celebrated our anniversary and instead of expensive gifts, we decided to plant an apple tree in our backyard. We also have a 10 1/2 mo old, so what a better way to celebrate his life, and our marriage, than to planting something that we can all watch grow together over the years. It is also a very "green" and environmentally friendly gift to give each other. :)

Oh wow! This year does sound like a challenge! I have seen some places sell copper figurines! Try searching it on Google or Yahoo! Ebay had a page of them, although some were a little out there, it might be a funny gift this year if you head that way! I bought my husband and myself a two person blanket this past year, made from wool. It was nice to snuggle up together this past winter while watching tv. It came from Bed, Bath & Beyond, not sure if they have them right now, maybe the website will. Good Luck! Congratulations on your special day!

Copper makes me think of pennies; does he have any interest in collecting coins? Or just a shiny copper penny for good luck? Wool could also be a nice blanket for your bed; hard to think about in the summer, but you two could snuggle under it come winter.

I think you should get him a sheep! LOL! :) Just kidding!

One thing that I have always thought was really cute are the name plates. My sister's MIL gave them one when they got married and it has their last name and below it est. August 18, 2001...which was their wedding date. They have it on one of the columns for their porch. She just loves it and I do too! You could get him something like that, I'm not sure if they actually make them in copper, but they do have copper colored ones!

Good luck, and congrats!

Pottery barn and I am sure others, make a leather catchall that you can also have monogrammed. They help with the clutter on the dresser -- it might be a slight stretch on the desk items, but could work. Happy Anniversary.
