What are good presents for a second time mom who now has the other gender for a child? The doting grandparents take care of every comfort and concern a parent could have. The parents have a "Less is more" philosophy and prefer organic products. They use real diapers. They won't feel it necessary to go overboard with specific gender clothing for the first twelve months of clothing. I do want to get a physical thing rather than a meal or a babysitting promise. I want to get something thoughtful, useful and appreciated for $50 or less. Any idea?

It's been over six years since I had a baby-so I can't help with any really cool gear.
I would go with a really cool book gift. Dictionary of imaginary places? Maybe make a basket out of it? Maybe a family keepsake journal book. Elf on the shelf or Christopher pop in kins (good family tradition to start if their first child is still young).
OH-or one of those companies that sends monthly gifts. There are some that send organic type food or good quality toys. there are some that are pricey-and some that you could get a 3 month subscription in your budget.
Go completely practical...sounds like they really don't need anything so look toward the future. I have both of these for my kids, love them. Great for daycare, camp, school, church nursery. I use the tags on lunch boxes, book bags, and jackets. The bands are excellent for baby bottles, sippy cups, and sports bottles when they are older.

Alternately, books on CD are awesome. We have several CDs of Dr. Seuss books read by famous celebrities. Enjoyed by all, the kids really get into them around 2-3 yrs old. They are most excellent in the car if you aren't into watching DVDs, and they can help keep little ones in bed for quiet time when they insist they don't need to nap anymore.
"Although books have always been a popular baby shower gift idea, there are many ways to create a unique display while giving a child a start with one of the most precious gifts: reading. Start with a collection of the classics, such as an anthology of fairy tales or Mother Goose rhymes, that will remain with the child throughout life. Then add some fun baby board books – the kind with stiff pages that will withstand the rigors of tiny page-turners. A set of bookends will ensure baby’s growing treasury of books will remain collected and displayed for years to come. Most major bookstores, such as Barnes and Noble, carry bookends, as do specialty shops. Be creative, and have fun with this basket.
If you’re inclined, add some music to create a multimedia gift basket: a lullaby CD or some fun music for the toddler years, perhaps." http://www.lifescript.com/well-being/articles/h/hold_it_7...

Organic personalized baby blanket.
Every baby deserves their own blanket.

A gift certificate for a family picture at jc Penney or Sears and a pretty photo frame.
Maybe a nice wrap or carrier for baby wearing, or a cute diaper carrier that has a wetbag section to accommodate cloth diapers? (I'm assuming that's what you mean by "real" diapers?)
Maybe a baby bullet... If they are fairly into organic, it seems like they might be interested in making their own food. It's fairly easy to do I. A regular food processor, but I used a friend's baby bullet once and loved it!
I like to get these loveys. If they've provided the gender and name, you can get it personalized.

I always like anything personalized or monogrammed. (So you'd give it once the child is born and you know the name). Stationery, blankets, placemats, cups, etc.
You could buy some stuff for when the baby is a little older like som e bottles, a bottle cleaner, baby dishes, a stuffed animal, raddles/ teithing toys etc
My thought is things that get used up. Since they use real diapers and perfer organic products I would look at getting them some of their favorite baby skin care products. California Baby is popular and not a pain to find. Even our Targets in Texas find it. Do you know when they grocery shop?
Well it depends on the going rates in the market but we like to give a proof set of coins of the baby's birth year. It is something they can save and might be worth more if saved over the years.
For years, we have giving Morgan Silver Dollars to the siblings of newborns. We collect numismatics and when I bought the roll of Morgans, they were about $12-$15 each and right now those Silver Dollars are worth $25-$30 each IF the recipient kept them in the protective sleeves and saved them.
I also love the super soft baby blankets that are small and used for the lovey sometimes. Gees, I thought my daughter would be sleeping with her blanket when she married... she slept with parts of it for years.
