Gift Ideas for a 4 Year Old and 20 Month Old Boy

Hello! As the holidays roll around, relatives are asking for gift ideas. We already belong to the zoo and Children's Museum, we see several plays a year, my sons are signed up for swimming, and they have lots of toys, stuffed animals, and books. We make sure to always do something charitable, so the boys do seem to understand the importance of giving and not just getting. They also had down and donate many toys/clothes they no longer use.

What have your kids really enjoyed at these ages? My 4 year old loves vehicles, his Leapster, and watching DVDs. My younger son is very active. Any ideas??

If you want something to keep the younger one active, look into children's gyms near you. Here we have Gymboree, My Gym and Little Gym as the big chains. Maybe you have one, too? A membership to something like that might be great for him.

For the older one, some Leapster games or cool cars would be great. My 4 year old asked for an ambulance this year, so I got him a neat Playmobile one that opens up in back and has a stretcher, plus some other equipment.

I also hope you'll check out my Discovery Toys page. We have some really great toys and games for toddlers and preschoolers (and really, kids of all ages). You can see it at http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/karenchao My favorite toy, Motor Works, is currently on backorder but will be available the week of 12/5 and will ship in time for the holidays. It's our #1 seller and a huge favorite among 4 year old boys.

Happy holidays!

My 4 year-old can't get enough of his superhero costumes.

Try bath toys and bubble bath. Those need frequent replacement and are fun. You can get new bath crayons and coloring pads, floatable cities and roads, animals and sea creatures, all sorts of stuff.

I love Haba blocks too, very timeless, from their classic wood blocks, beautiful colored blocks, and architechtural blocks.

We got our sons pop up tents with tunnels one year for Christmas - those were a hit for while. Duplo Legos could be good for the older one and are too big for the little one to eat. Lincoln Logs probably are a little old for them, but those may be good for next Christmas.

Memory could be fun or Candy Land. My mom is taking the kids to Build a Bear this year because they never have been there and it's an experience plus a bear. A HUGE hit that I swore we didn't need was one of those inflatable bounce house type things; it's a six foot inflatable boxing ring that we can put in the basement. We found it for $99 at Big Lots. LIFESAVER for me (and them) when its cold or rainy and they've been stuck inside for a while.

A scooter - a 3 wheel one they both could use. A new bike if they need it. Or a second bike if you only have one for both. One of those plastic basketball hoops that adjusts. New pj's or a new shirt with their favorite character on it - those are a hit every time for my kids, and it's not one more plastic thing to step on and pick up. Dress up costumes - super heroes, cowboy, anything really.

Although, my favorite gift for the kids, since they really don't need anything else, is a new book and money for their college account!
