Gift Ideas for Baptism

My twin nephews are being baptized this weekend. Do any of you have any suggestions or ideas on what gifts to get the boys? I'm thinking money to put in their college saving account that their parents have started for them but if so, what is an appropriate amount? Also, the soon-to-be godparents are wondering if they would give more than us since they are the godparents.

One thing to note... my sister-in-law and her husband have requested no big gifts as they have a small house with very little storage.

What can I do next?

Hi! When we baptized our twins (boy/girl), they received from my sister a DVD about their chosen Saint. Like my son's St. is St. Francis of Asissi and my daughter's St. is St. Teresa. I thought that was such great gifts, I loved them. You could also give them a toddler little bible for both or one each. I've seen cute ones. Any thing 'holy' would be nice. A medallion from a St. like St. Jude or St. Christopher. I've seen cute 'rosary little bracelets'. My brother bought them each their own gold ID bracelets with their names carved on them. That I loved as well. Hope I gave you some ideas. Money is good but I would prefer something 'memorable'.

Savings bonds or money for the fund would be good- I wouldn't figure more than 25.00 each even for the godparents- but I am a poor woman too. I know one couple got my son a small childrens new testament bible for later- but other than that, I don't remember what he got

I would do the money for college idea :) Either $25 or $50 (depending on your financial circumstance) each would be appropriate. If I were the Godparents, I would give twice the "normal" amount and include a small personal keepsake (engraved bible, cross necklace or something like that) that the kids can have when they are older. Check out a local Christian bookstore/gift shop for some really great ideas.

Good luck!

When my son was baptized we got a cute cloth book that was called baby's first bible book. It had a lot of animals in it so he loved it. We also got a nice picture frame to remember the day. I also like the idea of a guardian angel that you can hang in their bedroom.

In our church tradition (I'm Lutheran), I wouldn't necessarily expect gifts, and the gifts that are given can vary quite a bit. I think money in an account is a great idea, but I'd also do a card, so the child can remember your presence there later. I truly don't think the amount matters; give what is comfortable. I also don't think the godparents need to give more. My oldest son's godparents don't really do anything to commemorate his baptism; my second son's godmother sends gifts on both boys' baptism anniversaries, and that's great. It's something smallish (the biggest item being a Veggie Tales DVD) and Christian--often a book. But, it's great because it gives us the opportunity to remember their baptisms and to teach them about it. Any of those items would also be appropriate for a baptism, one-time-only gift.

A Bible. A cross, one for each, to hang in their room.

get a savings bond for them. My kids get them all the time, my grandma buys all the grandkids a 25 dollar one(which is worth 50 after mature) for every birthday, christmas and their baptisms. My 6 yr old has almost 1000 in savings bonds already (again once mature). They take time to mature but are a great gift! I have never bought them but I think you can buy them at any bank and you will need the childs soc number. My kids have their names on it and my name on it and you get a ceritifacate to put in a card then the bond will get sent to their house. I got bonds growing up and when I got married I have almost 3000 in bonds I cashed in and used towards my wedding. Good luck!

My favorite gifts that people gave me for my children's baptisms were engraved frames with the child's name and baptism date. I put a picture of our child and my husband and myself on the baptism day in the frame and it sits on each child's dresser. Things Remembered at the mall has engravable frames. If you put money in the college accounts, saving's bonds are nice because they cost much less than the final amount when they are matured. To me it isn't about the $ amount but rather the thought that you cared.

When my daughter was baptized she was given alot of savings bonds. They make a great gift and double when the have matured. I think it takes 5 years. Not sure. But that would be the best bet cause they do double.

We my twins were baptized, my favorite gifts for them were children's bibles, children's books of bible stories, and just plain old cash. I was amazed at the generosity of my friends and family. I didn't even realize people gave gifts, so we were so appreciative of everything.
