Gift for Mom of Premature Twins

My husband's coworker just had twin boys premature (i think she was 30 weeks). We want to do something or get some sort of gift for the mother, or for the new baby boys but I am not sure what they will need or want. When we had our daughter all his coworkers got gifts for her and most of them were clothes, but I don't know what size clothing to get as I have no idea how long they will be in the ICU etc... Does anyone know what would be appropriate to give, not too expensive but nice :)
Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for the good ideas everyone, I think we might go ahead and go with a gift card for food. I am not close with her, don't know her husband and wouldn't feel comfortable watching the boys. I just wanted to drop something by with a nice card. Thanks again

I would give her something practical. Hire a cleaning lady to help her in a few weeks, make her some meals for dinner, "babysit" so she can read a book or take a bath. That's what I would want...

My husband's coworkers got us dinner for a couple of nights from Whole Foods, while I can't recommend Whole Foods as the food was bland and flavorless, the thought was wonderful to not have to worry about cooking. One meal costs around $12 for a main dish and 2 sides. These would be great for after the babies come home. As for clothes, we got so many clothes for the boys that they will never wear everything before they outgrow it. We also got a beautiful twins picture frame. It came from The Grandparent Company. The only problem is that there was no card and we don't know who sent it, but it has an ink pad to make hand and foot impressions and a picture of each boy. Also, even if they haven't said anything, check Babies R Us or other stores for a registry to see what they want.

Get a giftcard to a local restaurant, so that she doesn't have to worry about cooking...or how about a babies r us giftcard with a note "To look forward to some fun shopping in just a few short weeks". :)

The help I most wanted (and didn't get) with one newborn at a time was someone to clean my house. The gift I most appreciated was someone bringing dinner over and cleaning up afterwards. Since you may not be close enough to them to go over, a gift card for restaurant meals, or gas would be much appreciated.

A gift card to a restaurant who does take out will be a blessing.
Around here, for births or funerals, everyone brings over frozen casseroles so people have some easy meals on hand.

The best thing is a gift card for gas or food, such as a restaurant near the hospital. They will be spending a lot of time driving to and from the hospital, and I'm sure they'll want a nice meal instead of hospital food. This is a popular gift in my twins club for new moms of twins.

Help! If you are close enough to this person, how about offering a little
help once the twins come home. :)
She'll have her hands full. (Doubly so.)
If the babies are in the NICU, they will most likely be sent home w/baby
bottles just for tiny preemies.
When my baby came home from the NICU, I used a lot of soft bankets
for swaddling. The thin kind like they have at the hostpital.
I only used the bottle they gave me to take home.
A baby thermometer.
A book on baby help. Can't remember the name of it now & I no longer have it but it's something like A-Z Baby Info/Help.

You could, also, give mom a fwe things just for her: warm sockies, a heating pad, a magazine, a sleep eye mask, a warm blanket throw.

Ditto on the gift card. If you know what hospital, try to get it for a restaurant close by since they will be spending a lot of time at the hospital..Also, the aidan and anais swaddle blankets are faves of mine.

A home cooked meal or two! She definitely won't feel up to cooking. Or gift certificates for meals that can be delivered.

If you don't want to do food, how about a gift certificate for a diaper service. She'll be up to her eyeballs in diapers!

I had a little one in the NICU and I would recommend just a little card letting them know you would like to drop off dinner when the babies come home or something along those lines, and include a gas card for all the extra travel they will be doing between the hospital and home!

One thing you could do if they also have other children is offer to babysit so they can both spend as much time with the babies as possible.......

diapers are always a good thing because they don't go bad and even if you get them a little too big they will eventually grow into them. Then maybe a gift card for a food store. I don't know if you have stop n shop out there but they have peapod service which delivers your groceries. That would be heaven if someone did that for me.

I remember when my daughter was that small. Everyone sent us teenie tiny preemie clothing, an explosion of it. She outgrew her entire wardrobe in a month and we had to scramble to the store to find stuff that fit her. Gift certificates or cash is great, then they can get what they need when they need it. (I was very grateful for the amazon, target and costco gift cards as well as the checks that came in the mail.)

The gift every mother of twins (premature or otherwise) wants: SLEEP. Offer to watch the boys when they get home so she can sleep knowing they are well cared for. Nothing but nothing was more precious to me during those early days than sleep.
