Anyone have cool, unique ideas on what to give a co-worker who is returning home to India after being in the US for almost 2 years? I am thinking of framing a picture I have with her and maybe a Chicago t-shirt. They seem kind of ordinary though. Thanks for any thoughts you have! :)

What can I do next?

Maybe try to get a bunch of photos from several different people and make a little book for her. You know how they have "grandma brag books" ? See if they have one of those little photo albums you can put a bunch of photos in of her over the couple years she was here. That and stuff from where you guys live. I think it is awesome!

Edit- Kalualani has a cool idea. Shutterfly.com has awesome stuff you can put photos on!

You didn't say much about your friend, so this idea might be terrible for her. We were good friends with a couple from France and when they went back we got them an American cookbook to take back with them. They loved to cook and wanted to be able to make some of the food they ate here once they got back home. She might like it if she enjoys cooking.

If you have several pictures, it is not too hard now to get an actual hard-bound, personalized book or photo album. --- or you could put the picture ON the t-shirt -- or a mug, or a blanket, or a totebag...

How about something from each of the "main attractions" in Chicago? They could be small so they would fit in a box to ship home. A snowglobe, a puzzle, postcard, t-shirt all would pack and/or ship nicely. Or if you are a scrapbooker you could gather pictures from her, your co-workers and other friends and make her a nice scrapbook of her time here, the sky is the limit on those!

I think your idea is lovely. That which is ordinary to us is unique there, and vice versa. Perhaps, though, you could send her off with some pizza from Pizzeria Uno (am I getting that name right? I'm not from there, but my husband is... anyway, awesome Chicago style pizza).

My friend recently returned home to Germany after being in the states for a while and another friend went around town and took pictures of some of the attractions for her to remember. Things like where they hung out together, favorite coffee shop, restaurant, shopping mall, etc. She then put them all together in a book for her to remember...it turned out really nice.

How about a special notebook where everyone writes their emails, addresses, phone number, etc. so you can all keep in touch. I do not know the capabilities of doing it all on computer there, so she would have a hard copy.
