Getting Out a Stain

Dreft (the baby detergent) is the best stain remover I have ever found, hands down. I pretreat anything my daughter stains up as soon as she takes it off and just let it sit till I do laundry. I have even let it sit on stains that are older and has worked. I just have a plain spray bottle and have combined water and dreft detergent (liquid) and keep it under the bathroom sink.

You can also try Oxy powder and soaking in hot water.

I swear by the Carbona products. They are in tiny yellow bottles at the supermarket. They have a bottle that is made for each individual tough stain. I don't know what I'd do without their grass stain bottle! They do have one for grease and one for sauce and coffee and blood etc. They save me every time!

Hi H., I use Oxyclean, the powder. Put the item, in this case a shirt in a sink with hot water and put the powder directly on the stain. Let it soak but be careful, Oxyclean will "eat" through the clothes if left too long. Then rinse and toss in wash. It works great, good luck

Hi H., Go to the store and get Shout Gel. Shout Gel has removed more stains from our clothes than I can count. From two year old set in formula stains (on hand-me-downs) to black broiler hood grease in oxford shirts! Pizza sause, even dried in is no match for this great suff in the white bottle!! I have used it for years, and have two suggestions...first you have to let it sit on the stain for at least 24 hours (according to the directions you can let it sit for up to a week) and you have to be carefull using it on an older white shirt...you could end up with really white spots on the shirt if you leave it sit too long! A bottle of Shout gel is under $3 and is the best laundry helper you can get in my humble opinion! Best wishes.

My mom swears by the Original Dawn dish soap for all tough stains! I'm now a believer too. You could also try GoJo (the pumice liquid hand soap that mechanics use). Good luck!

I'm sure you have gotten or will get all kinds of ideas to get the stain out. IF you can't get it out don't panic, go to the craft store and get some fabric markers or paint anf cover the stain with art. If you don't feel artistic just make a bunch of polka dots all over, or a simple daisy like flower that covers the spot.

Have fun, your daughter will enjoy spending time with you while you plan how to make something beautiful out of an accident.

Buy BIZ, put the shirt in the washer with hot water and Biz, let it agitate, then soak for a few hours (overnight), let it agitate again, let the water drain out, wash it the way you normally would, then hang it outside in the sun (yes, even if it is 40 degrees outside)! The sun bleaches out the stain with the help of the Biz. It is a lifesaver. I and my mom have been using this for YEARS! As a matter of fact, I am about to hang my sheets out in the sun after soaking in Biz overnight (my daughter had a nose bleeed). IT WORKS!

Using cold water and a bar of soap, gently rub the stain and rinse under the running cold tap.....repeat until the stain starts to disappear. You can try Borax or toothpaste as well.

Hi! This is one of those old hints from Heloise. Make a paste out or fresh lemon juice and baking soda. Apply the paste and let dry(Hopefully in a sun patch or near a window that gets sun) as the paste dried is lifts the stain. I've used this for years and it works great on tough stains like blood, wine, etc. Good luck!

I use De-Solv-It. ANd the only places I have found it are Wal-mart and HOme Depot. If I don't have that, I use Shout Advanced.

Have you tried dissolving Oxyclean in hot water and then soaking the shirt in it for a while. This usually works for me although I must say I have not tried it on pizza sauce. I hope you can get it out. I know about the special clothes.

I swear by the Oxyclean laundry spray - that combined with WHITE VINEGAR has taken out anything and everything I've thrown at it. I spray first and then pour a little bit of vinegar on it prior to washing (I let it sit for maybe 10-15 minutes first) and it has taken out red sauce and every other kind of yuk my kids have managed to get on their clothes. As much as I hate to admit this...it's a Martha Stewart tip - but it really works. Good luck!

I believe Zout (in the red spray bottle) takes out tomato sauce. I spray it on and work it in with an old toothbrush. OxyClean is decent also.

H., We have been using 'ZOUT' spray with great success!!! It removes ketchup from my kids' clothes, so I would think it would remove pizza.
You can find ZOUT in the grocery store in the laundry isle. I hope it works well for you.

I used Oxyclean to get tough stains out of baby clothes. I'm talking stains that I had given up on (washed and dried over and over), but I tried one last time before I was going to store the clothes away for the next child . . . and they came out! I ended up soaking them in Oxyclean for DAYS. Not on purpose . . . sort of forgot about them soaking - but it worked! I currently have a spaghetti sauce stain soaking . . . keeping my fingers crossed!

I used Dawn Dish soap when my daughter spilled salsa on my white carpet. It worked. It should work for you. Good Luck.

I haven't had to with pizza sauce yet, but Oxiclean seems to get a lot of stains out for me. You may have to soak it a few times before you wash it and leave it soak for a while, but that seems to do the trick with a lot of my problem stains!

Ok i'm en expert on this! You need oxiclean, Just one of those containers of the powdered stuff. If you have anything else to get a small load together even better. This will get year old stains out! So put your washer on small load, hot water cycle. Start pouring in the oxiclean. I probably go over board and pour in close to have a container full. Then i put the clothes in. Let it finish filling with water. Then allow it to start the next cycle (the swishsing around) and stop the machine. Let it sit over night. Turn it on, let it swish some more, stop it. Do this a few times, then eventually let it go through and finish the run. The stains are gone almost every time for me, you just have to allow all that soak time.

You got alot of varied responses. I use Zout (spray bottle) for everything. It has even removed stains from salad dressing before.

I love OxyClean. Hot water & Oxy have become my miracle.

But...when my odd was young, she LOVED red pasta sauces. The savior for me then was Stain Devils for tomato based stains. Got out REALLY old set in stains.

i swear by dreft stain remover spray and oxiclean. i spray any stain, even blood, with the dreft and then let it soak in warm/hot water with oxiclean, you may have to repeat depending on the stain, but it really works. hope this helps.

I use Shout Advanced for set-in stains. It really works.

I have been using dish soap, Dawn, Joy whatever I have seems to be working on my tough stains.

Home remedy. Soak with equal parts milk and white vinegar. Works like a charm :)
