Getting My Period a Week Early While on the Pill

I have been on the pill for about 6 months. It's been going fine. I didn't even have any irregular spotting when I first started taking it. However, today I noticed that my period is starting more than a week early. I should be getting it next Tuesday or Wednesday. Why would this be happening? I haven't missed or been late taking any of the pills. This has never happened to me in all the years I've taken the pill. I was on it for seven years before I had kids, then was on it again for three years in between my first and second pregnancies. I'm perplexed

ETA: I have not been on any antibiotics, or have had any changes in my diet, exercise, or stress level

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks! I called my GYN and she told me to see if this happens again next month. If so, she advised me to come in and have blood work done to check for hormonal imbalances etc...

If you have been sick latly or anything abnormal has gone on that could happen. Mine started coming early when I had a cyst on my overy. Just watch and keep track of when this one started and ends. And then if it comes in the right timing from when you started this time or if it goes back to normal time. If it is early more than 2 months in a row I would call your dr.

Good Luck and God Bless!

Any time that you bleed unexpectedly while on the pill, you may want to use a backup method of birth control. Break through bleeding can mean that your pill is no longer effective for you and you may need to try a slightly higher dose pill. If you have concerns, a call to your doctor might be warranted.

My period did that last month when I had taken antibiotics. Antibiotics can make the pill ineffective. Did you take any medicines you don't usually take, or were you sick?

obviously the best answer would come from your obgyn, but in the meantime, i can tell you that i often have this happen...i was told (by my dr. who is a male, and somewhat condescending, grr) that if i lost weight this wouldn't be an issue. mine was more like spotting...and then my actual "period" would be just spotting as well.

Like someone else mentioned it could mean cysts on your ovaries...are you having any pain with the period or before or after?
