Hi ladies, you all are a wonderful bunch, and I'm so glad I've found this group. So I come again with another question, not really on parenting exactly. But here it is. I want to get another tattoo, or maybe 2 one for each one of my boys. Any ideas? I'm really bad at coming up with ideas like this. Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

Wow everyone had such great ideas, more then I ever thought of. Now I have a lot more thinking to do. It will be a couple of months before I decide for sure and get it. But I will be sure and let everyone know what i end up getting. Thanks again for all your input.

I got my youngest childs hospital footprint on my tummy with all of my childrens names around it. I just gave the tatt guy the print of it and he was able to copy it from there. This has nothing to do with kids but I got my own lip prints on my shoulder and I get a ton of is that real

Like others I like the name idea. One of my friends had his son write his name, he was 5 at the time then he took it in and had it put on the inside of his wrist. It looks really great with the little kid writing. Good luck with whatever you decide!!

I am working up the nerve to get my daughters name tattooed on me. I have my nickname "shorty" tattooed on my lower back. But when I work up the nerve again I am putting my daughters handprint with her name and dob "Emma Louise 9/29/05" probablly on my shoulder blade and when we have our second child I'll do that one on my other shoulder blade. I have been planning it for a while! Good luck choosing

Ok so I don't have one tatoo but after watching Miami Ink the other night I would most definitley consider this one...a guy took three photos and some how put them as one like a vertical story board. One had his wife's eye, one with his son's ear and I'm not sure what the third was but it was AWESOME. You'd just have to find someone who was good at portraits ya know. anyways...there's my two cents...and if I ever get one then that's what it would most likely be like...good luck.

Hi, I have two little boys also, and what I did on my tattoo is I have a picture of a sun (son) and then have their names on each side. It looks really neat and it is only one tattoo. I have had alot of compliments on it people thinking that it was a neat idea

I know another mom who wanted to get one representing herself and her daughters, so she did 3 butterflies. A large on in the middle and two small ones floating around it, and the colors were their birthstone colors. Maybe incorporate your son's birthstone colors into something that better symbolizes your boys than a butterfly probably would and that would be cool!

I would almost love to have a portrait of my children done, but it would have to be a decent size to look right and of course you ahve to find a tattoo artist who is amazing with portraits--make sure to see LOTS of their previous work!

Have fun deciding! Let us know what you pick :)

I'm in the same boat. I was thinking about letting my daughter write her name (when she's old enough) and getting that tattooed. Maybe that's silly, I don't know but it seems cute now. :)

I just got a knew one.....8 in all. I got my sons foot prints with his first name above it and middle name under it. It is on the back of my calf so if i have another one i have another leg. I know it isn't all that original but I love it. It is his actual footprint....lines and all. A good tattoo place is skin thieves in sedalia....not sure where you live. The owner also does really good portraits. so you could even get their little faces tattood on you.

I saw an awesome idea one day and thought it wiould be pretty cool. But it depends on your boys ages. I saw a guy have his kids draw a bunch of pictures for him. Then they all sat down and picked out thier 3 favorites. Then he and his boys went to the tattoo parlor and showed the artist and he helped them whittle it down. Now the guy has two real art pieces designed by his sons. He said the real reward was the reminder that they brought him whenever he looked at them. Not just of that special day, but of what the boys were like at that age.
Also talk to them, let them tell you what things they love and couldn't live without. What are thier favorite colors, cartoon characters, what do they want to grow up to be. These are to be lifelong reminders of them so make it all about them. Get them involved. You might be surprised what you learn about them. I can't wait to do this with my son. I have decided to wait until he is five. A nice way for us both to transition out of the baby phase. I loved the idea too about letting them write thier own name and then doing that. If this is purely about looks then just go for the old pretty picture with thier names. but if this is a real tribute to your sons, let them be involved. Every milestone you involve them in becomes a treasured memory and makes the event infinately more satisfying. Hope this helps. Good luck and I can't wait to hear what you've decided.

You could get their footprints that they do at the hospital, or their handprints, have them write their own names, Do a traditional heart and banner and have their names written in the banner... There are MANY things you could do, it just depends on your personal style etc... Best thing would be to talk it over with your artist, and kids (If they are of age to understand etc)... I was thinking of getting a feminine dragon with my boys names around it as a dragon is a symbol of protection. But I think I'm going to wait til I'm for sure done having kids before I do anything with my kids' names etc... There are many different things you could do! If you want the name of an awesome artist, go see Bryan at Bleeding Heart in Lees Summit, he is the best, VERY clean, and resonabley priced! Good Luck and def let us know!!! (I'm a tatto junkie and love to hear about others! = )

My friend took a picture of her sons fingerprint and had the tatto artist use that to make a butterfly, it's very pretty and very sentimental. She's planning on doing the same thing with the second child.

I've always considered getting one and what I've always wanted it either my two kids names as the sides of the heart (if that makes sense, instead of a straight line their names are the lines), or maybe a heart with two arrows in the middle and their names are the arrow. Good luck deciding

Hi S.,
I have 2 girls and have a 4 month old son. I had a dragonfly done on my lower back on the side (so it can be hidden) and I had the girls' names put in the wings (like the lines that are in their wings) Everyone likes it that has seen it. Now that I have had one tattoo done I want another and I have to think of something for my son's tatoo, they are addicting. Let me know what you decide.

Okay here is my take on it. I have two tattoos'. One large one of the sun and moon along with a thick tribal band on my lower back. I like this one because I can cover it when I want too. The second one is on my ankle. This one was my first. At some point you may want to cover it for formal event, so my suggestion is to steer clear of your arms, shoulders, upper back, neck area.
A cute idea would be to take their names in "Old English Script" and wrap them around your lower ankle..like a vine with their names. A very delicate look!
That is just my thought..

Funny that you ask, because I am wanting to get one of my daughters name and have absolutely no idea what to do or where to get it. I will tell you that my mother-in-law has the cutiest idea and that is to have nemo with bubbles around it with the names in each bubble. Also, I really like just plain ol' celtic writing. Just a thought. You will have to let me know what you get :)
