M.,
Not sure which surfaces you are refering to. If you want more info on a safe disinfectant that kills germs (bacteria and viruses) for up to 3 days, let me know. It is registered with the EPA.

Hi, I believe a virus doesn't die unless it is disinfected. This is why supermarkets have begun having the disinfecting wipes to wipe down the handles of baskets. I have small containers of sanitary wipes EVERYWHERE and carry them with me in my purse in the car, by my computer, phone.

Good Luck!

All viruses are different. If you need specifics you can do a search on-line. Try the CDC's website. HIV for example dies once it is outside of body temp. Hepatitis's can survice for a few days.

Viruses tend to live longer on hard surfaces than soft ones. Cold virus typically only lives a few hours (I think 5-6, but I'm not positive); the flu generally lives 1 day, and h1n1 can live up to 2 days. HIV lives only a few hours outside the body. By the way, all these survival times are less is they're on porous substances, like fabrics, and sometimes they're a little longer if they're living in water, like a sink spout.

Bacteria are very variable -- some live minutes, some form spores and live practically forever! It just depends.
