gDiapers - Has Anyone Heard of This Green Product?

I thought of using gdiapers too, but it seems like to me the amount of fussing with things is almost the same as cloth diapers and they are more expensive. I am trying some different cloth diapers now. Found my favorites are actually the bumgenius that the PP mentioned. They are a pocket diaper that you just push the insert into them and then put them on baby. Then you wash both the diaper and the insert. I have tried a couple different ones, and this is my fav so far...seem most comfy and don't leak on my son. Those and some other similar products are available on cottonbabies.com. I think that diapers.com also sells like a starter pack of gdiaper....you could try them out before spending tons of money on them.

i have used gDiapers with lots of luck. it's about the fit, in the legs, though. they either fit your baby or they don't. i have found that it's ok to gap at the waist as long as they are snug at the leg. also, you have to be careful about flushing the inserts, as they are like flushing paper towels. ripping open the inserts and flushing the interior part has given me no problems, but flushing the actual insert has given everyone i know plumbing concerns.

the other option is to get cloth diapers, which are no more difficult than gDiapers, and have no waste product. really, if you are willing to do and can handle gDiapers, doing cloth all-in-ones or pocket diapers are identical -- except that you wash and reuse!! i love my prefold cloth, and i actually use the gDiaper covers as my covers (that way i can use gDiapers when we go out, etc). anyway, that's been my experience!

I haven't used the g-diapers, but I did cloth diaper my son, and plan to do the same for my baby due in June. We do it for several reasons:
1. environment (no landfill, and since we wash with a high-efficiency washer, not too much water/energy waste either)
2. No chemicals near my baby's skin
3. Very economical - you can get many diapers used (see www.diaperswappers.com, for example) and depending on what kind you get, you may be able to use the same 24 diapers from birth through potty training!
4. Not really any more of a hassle than disposables

Cloth is more of an investment up front, but depending on how much you spend (say, $200 to get yourself completely outfitted, much less if you choose to use pre-folds instead of a fitted or pocket diaper) you hit your break-even point around 4 months, and from then on actually save quite a bit of money.

i've heard mixed reviews on gDiapers but i haven't used them personally. i've heard that they can cause issues with your plumbing. i started cloth diapering with my 2nd son (5 months old) and LOVE it. i wish i would have started right away with my first! i use prefolds and covers at home and when we're out i use pocket diapers (either bumgenius or haute pockets).

I agree w/ the majority of the responses in the I've found BumGenius to be the absolute best. They're all in one, quick and easy. The downside, is the up-front cost, but it does pay out in the long run. So for us, during the day we use the organic cloth pre-folds w/ the Bummis SuperBrite covers (they fit our daughter's legs the best.) You can find them at amazon. At night or outside the house, we typically use the BumGenius because they're quick and easy (especially for those late night changes.)

The thing with gDiapers is that it's still got the disposable insert, so it's a little better than just plain disposables, but still produces waste and is consumed (thus, manufactured, etc.) so it's not really that "green."

But kudos to you for checking it out and investigating green options for raising your child. It's not always easy, it's not always cheap, and it's not always the popular choice. But the more people who try to live a green lifestyle (and teach their children the same,) the more options that will be created and made available, and the better condition we can leave the environment in for our children and future generation!

I have heard of gdiapers...I watched the videos on the website. I think they look pretty cool, and if I was going to have another baby, I would definately try them. Good luck...let us know how they turn out...I am so curious.

In my experience gDiapers are an excellent transition to cloth diapering. People try them and then realize that cloth would be better still. They start by using cloth inserts in the G-diapers and then before they know it they are onto using full time cloth. The BumGenius One-Size Pocket Diaper (fits 7-35lbs)is by far the best transition cloth diaper for parents switching from disposables. I am having my second in June, and I would really like to ave money and be green. Gdiapers are ok, from what I hear, but I think I'm going to go with regular cloth inserts and bumgenius covers, myself. Less expensive, less waste, and with Gd's, you have to keep getting new sizes, but with the other ones, they fit all throughout-snaps, velcro, etc.

I think for disposables every once and a while, I'm going to go with Tushies, Seventh Gen. etc.

I tried them on my newborn (he is now 6 months) and I had a problem with leaking. I would have to change him and his clothes every hour. I stopped using them and tried again when he was 2 months old and still had the same problem. They seemed to leak at the top on the side. On another note when I researched them the gdiaper got rave reviews. I know of a good organic brand called Baby Kangas. You might want to check those out also. Good luck

I have not heard of the brand gDiapers, but I am going to be using cloth diapers and my friends have used cloth diapers. They have had a lot of success with using the plain clothe diapers with the water proof covers on them, as well as the BumGenius brand. They use the cloth diapers with covers more at home, but when they are in a rush and need something convienent they go for the bum genius. I would recommend the website www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com It is a lady that sells cloth diapers out of her home in Bloomington(I dont know where you are located) and she is very helpful. The website itself has lots of different brands and pictures and directions on how to use them. Good Luck!
