My 7 week old has horrible gas! His poops are normal and he's not excessively spitting up so I don't think I need to switch formulas. But I would like to do something to help him when he's in so much pain! I already give him a dose of probiotics in his early morning bottle, and put Gripe Water in every second bottle throughout the day. I'm hoping you moms have some other ideas for me to try!

I should also mention that we use Dr. Brown's bottles, which are supposed to reduce the amount of air taken in at each feeding.

My 4 month old twins are very gassy too. We use the gripe water, also the mylicon. We also have a "happy tummy" you warm it in the microwave for a few seconds and wrap it around their stomach. the heat helps calm their stomachs and it smells of lavendar and other soothing scents for their tummy. i hope this helps.

P.,

I hear you! We are in the same boat with our 5 week old.

I agree with the other posts and just bought the probiotics and mylicon for our son today too. We already are using Gripe Water too.

Our pediatrician today recommended keeping him sitting up esp. after every feeding - she said he may have reflux too - that every baby has it to some degree. So a bouncy seat, car seat or sling/carrier. Also, burp him more frequently during feedings, don't just let him chug along.

The formula may be adding to it too. Have to tried any of the other varieties? You can go online to register with the different formula companies, and they'll send you free samples in the mail. It's a nice, cheap way to try something new. Or you can e-mail me, we have some we don't need - maybe you can use them?

Good luck and e-mail me anytime. It's nice to know we're not the only ones going crazy!

Best of luck!

Sara

My daughter had classic colic which is the least colic to worry about, but made her really fussy and the dr recomended Bio Gaia Probiotic drops to help and they helped us greatly! Maybe you should bring this up to your dr. hope this helps! good luck.

Our Pediatrician recommended "Mylicon" drops and said they were safe to add to every bottle. WalMart makes a generic version if you don't want to pay for the brand name. This worked for us!

Try changing bottles, I was using platex nursers and had to switch to advent, what a difference. They both are gas reducers.

Try to stir the bottle instead of shaking it. Shaking causes bubbles.
Little tummys gas relief drops could help as well.

Extra burping will help. I also used to put him on his tummy on the boppy pillow and he would bring his knees up and that would help him get his gas out. Good luck.
