She has to go to a doctor. You said she can't, but she must. What she's experiencing sounds like my first miscarriage. My body didn't complete the miscarriage on it's own and wouldn't have without medical intervention. I would have just kept bleeding. I hope she's not miscarrying, but she has to see a doctor. She can go to planned parenthood for sliding fee care if money is the issue.

You can tell her that while she should definitely get to a dr or an ER to get checked out, that it is possible to having bleeding, clots and even cramping during early pregnancy, and still go on to have a healthy baby.

My sister is due with her second son at the end of this month. At 2mo pg, she was sure she was losing the baby. She had bleeding, with major clots and cramping and was really scared.
It turned out that she had been carrying twins, but one was not viable and terminated.

Another friend of mine is due in September, and she has been bleeding and cramping throughout her pregnancy. Her baby is fine, and the drs have told her to take it easy, but that she should make it full term no problem!

So tell your friend, rest, drink LOTS of fluids, and see a dr as soon as possible.
Also, if it does turn out that it is a miscarriage, PLEASE reassure her that they are much more common than she thinks, and it is NOT HER FAULT. One in four pregnancies is just a cluster of cells that never quite develops into a baby, and ends in a miscarriage.

Tell her there are people out here praying for her and her little one!

Hi,

I think it will be important for her to get to see her doctor and get ultrasounds to make sure all is well. When I was pregnant as well I would bleed some and passed some blood clots. Lucky for me it just seemed I had some extra blood clots that were hanging around and that's what was bleeding. They explained that it just seemed like I had extra blood clots that did not pass during previous menstrual cycles. It had nothing to do with my baby in my case but that's why the ultrasounds were so important. They warned me I could have an eptopic pregnancy but after the 3rd month the bleeding stopped and I have a happy health 4 year old now.
Good luck to her.

This happened to me at about 14 weeks pg, and it ended up being a "hematoma" under the placenta. It healed itself and I went on to deliver a baby boy, healthy, but a few weeks premature. Some pregnancies are just more riddled with complications. She needs medical care to see whats going on. Good luck to her. Tell her to RELAX and stay off her feet and think good thoughts.

She needs to either get to the doctor or the emergency room. If she's preg, this isn't only for her safety, but that of her unborn child. As for passing clots, I did with my son and this preg. My son turned out to be a very normal and wonderful preg. This is going well too. Each preg is different and everyone experiences different symptoms...but always on the safe bet, if your friend is bleeding, spotting, or clotting...go to the doctor.

T. I am a practicing midwife in Oregon. I strongly suggest that your friend be seen by a maternity care specialist. These symptoms can reflect a possible ectopic pregnancy, or a threatened miscarriage. An inevitable miscarriage may be safely completed at home by letting nature take its course, but an ectopic pregnancy is much more serious.
On the positive side, it's good to know that very often bleeding in early pregnancy subsides by itself, and mama goes on to have a normal pregnancy and birth.
Good luck to your friend.

First of all she needs to see her doctor or go to the ER. Whenever a pregnant woman starts to bleed its a good idea to see a doctor to find out actually what it is.

I had it happen at 13 weeks, during my third pregnancy. The first two were uneventful. They did frequent ultrasounds to make sure the clot was getting smaller, they had me on pelvic rest and I did have some spotting for a few weeks. by 20 weeks it was resolved. I carried to term and had a healthy baby. They don't know why this happens. It was a blood vessel in the uterus that basically weakened and caused a bleed but didn't affect the baby.

She needs to be seen NOW! There should be NO reason in this world why she can't see a DR. Her health/life & her babies health/life are in danger!

--- Like a lot of people- I am totally committed to everyone having access to decent medical care- and I know full well we are a LONG way from that. So, one suggestion--- have your friend call Children's Hospital - and see if they can help her-- ( the staff there REALLY don't want a fragile baby - and may have more flexibility than other hospitals. ) If that doesn't work--- call public health clinics --- . I did have some pretty scarey symptoms twice--- once was a miscarriage -and the other was a healthy baby. Your friend should probably do as much resting as possible.

I'll be praying for her-

Hello T., I would recommend your friend go see a doctor immediately to either confirm she may be going through a miscarriage, or if there may be something else going on which she can receive help. thx

Tell her if she doesn't have medical care she CAN go to the doctor NOW and then contact DSHS and get medical coverage they will cover any medical up to three months before coverage. This is if that is the reason why she says she can't go now.

PREGNANT WOMAN CAN ALWAYS GET MEDICAL COVERAGE! Just so everyone knows!!

Blood clots are not normal. She should go see her ob/gyn and get examined. It's not a good thing to sit and wonder and she needs the peace of mind of knowing where she's at in her pregnancy. Did she have her first pre-natal appt yet? Again, to the doctor. It's the best thing to do.
