I have fed my boy (8 months old) all raw fruit (apple, bananna, avocado, pears, peach) for 3 weeks. I just peel and blend them and feed my baby. Do I have to cook it? I heard some friends told me they need to be cooked for babies' stomach..

Thanks

What can I do next?

not at 8 months, raw is fine. My daughter is 9 mo and the only cooked fruit she gets is apples b/c I buy organic apple sauce at costco for her.

I dont think it matters if its cooked or not. I think if it was cooked, it would be softer and maybe less of a choking hazard. But as long as your feeding him, cut up portions (which you probably are) i think its fine. As long as your son doesnt have any alergic reactions, i think the raw fruit is fine. My daughter ate some, i had to be careful, because she was super super sensitive when she was that age. Good Luck!!

The only thing cooking does to fruit is make them soft and easier to blend/mush up/puree into baby food - it has NOTHING to do with "babies' stomach". Cooked or raw, they are still nutritionally and digestively the same.

Hi,

My daughter's food is always steamed, not becasue of her stomach, but becasue it makes the skin soft enough to puree and if chopped in little pieces for older kids, easier for them to chew. Most of the nutrients of fruits and veggies are in a thin layer under the skin and in the skin. So if you peal the fruit and veggies, you are pealing away most of the good stuff. I have heard something about carrots needing to be store bought due to something in them, but my Dr. said there was no problem with homemade/raw carrots, so I still never bought them.

I do however feed her raw avocado and I cook and peal the sweet potatoes and yams for obvious reasons...

You don't have to cook them. As long as you are blending them to a puree form and making it so that he doesn't choke, it should be fine. I think maybe that was what your friends concerns may have been. Plus I've given my son small pieces of bananas and avocados and he does perfectly fine with them.
