Does anyone know how to use it when it connects with a yahoo group. I had this problem when I was pregnant with my first son and just kinda gave up on freecycle all together. so I tried it again in my immediate area and I can use it but Martinsburg WV needs a yahoo group to use it and I am having so much trouble (breath). sigh. okay thanks so much in advance!
BTW the problem I am having is that I can not see the wanted and offered items. It just sends me to a weird yahoo page and all this flashy stuff shows up and confusion is happening :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

This is ridiculous apparently martinsburg freecycle can only be joined if you are local it says no VA or MD residents. 25 minutes away is not local? so annoyed, my mom lives there! The free cycle here has like 15 items up there.

Once you join the yahoo group, it's easy to see it all. I get email updates but could just go view it on the website, but again, you have to join the group first.

Ask your Mom to join and then you can login using her account.

You should contact your freecycle mods and see if weird things are happening there or if you've missed a setting. For me, it shows up like any yahoo group list, and I have that account set to daily digest. I mostly just use the digest unless I have something to post.

You could explain that your mom lives there. Maybe that will grant you membership.

Have you joined the yahoo group? If you haven't, you have to be a member to see posts. If you have joined, you must be logged into your yahoo account.

Can you send a request to the moderator to allow you to join it? Perhaps just change your Yahoo ID info to show the local area you wish to be in.

But no, I would say that 25 minutes is not very local, depending upon what your area is like. In my area, my town has very limited Freecycle activity, but 1 town over is Freecycle heaven. 25 minutes from us is another great Freecycle area, but people wouldn't drive that far unless the items were really top notch.

I love freecycle and we have a decent sized group in my area, but my kids are older and My time is more precious so i generally wouldn't drive more than 15 mins, because you can't really tell if the stuff will be worth it and more often than not it isn't what i'm picturing in my head, condition wise.

One option already mentioned would be to register with your mom's address.

Another would be to post on Craigslist, I think they have a free section.

It sort of depends on if you are looking to acquire or to give away.
If you are a generous person there are probably lots of shelters that would gladly take household goods, childrens toys books and clothing, and women's clothing as well.

In order to use Freecycle you MUST have your membership set up for "live" not web only....that's how it is in our area.

If you are having problems with the site, contact your moderator.

You can send me a PM. I will do my best to help you.

We have a local freecycle group that is a facebook page. I don't know how it would work on yahoo, but it's very easy on facebook. You could always start one -- I found ours through a local blockwatch page on Facebook.
