M.S.
It could have been something that was being paid for a while, with a final payment (and therefore pickup) of $230.
Going through the laundry, found a crumpled up receipt (probably Christmas present related, LOL)... but what does it mean when the receipt shows something as valued at $4500, pickup was noted as same day, but only$230 was paid cash? What?! It wasn't an itemized receipt, other than the 'merchandise value' and the amount paid...
Sorry, should have been more specific, it's from a jewelry store...
To answer Kate, I don't want to call in case it IS a Christmas present ;) LOL I WASN'T SNOOPING, I promise :)
I've just never seen a receipt breakdown like that before...
Can you finance or layaway with cash? We don't have credit cards or anything, and he's been unemployed... I'm so confused by the merch. value = $4500...

Sounds like you are getting a nice Christmas gift and he is making payments on it. There are jewelry stores that do that. Congrats!!
Whatever it is, you should hold on to that receipt. If you get no jewelery, then bring it up.
Pawn shop?
Duh! Engagement ring!
And stop snooping--you'll ruin your own surprise! Are you six? LOL
WoooHooo! Sounds like it's gonna be a nice Christmas!!!! Better take back that striped tie you bought him! Bahahaha!
(And yes, sounds like it was a layaway or some kind of payment plan, or a pawn shop where they appraised the piece when it was purchesed)
Merry Christmas!!
Sounds like your getting something Goooood for Christmas!! Wahoo!
Im excited for you! Dont say anything to him unless you dont get jewelry for Christmas. It would probably really upset him if he was trying to surprise you like this. Lets just hope its not for his mom!
Just like Denise said - You dont want to ruin a Surprise :-) !! let it go !! LOL
Where was it from? Did it give what the item was?It could of been a pawn shop don't know never shopped there but I think they sell things for way less than the value. He could of had a layaway made payments so the remaining balance was noted at pick up time.
I hope it was Chrismas realated gift but why would it be crumbled up?If it's not under the tree for you I would hold onto that recepit & ask what is this & what did you purchase & for who.
If it is a custom piece, then he may have had to put $$$ down when he ordered it and what you are seeing is the balance. More likely, he paid the $230 in cash and the rest is being financed.
Either way, if you trust your husband then you have something really great waiting under that tree!
I see something sparkly in your future ... and you may want to simply drop it in his hand and remind him to clean out his pockets before you do laundry. you can gauge by the look on his face if he was good or bad if you are questioning.
The 4500 could also mean the "appraised value." That's not always the amount paid.
How sweet of your hubby! But do keep the receipt for your files and insurance purposes (just tell him you found it after he gives the gift).
(:
Maybe it was on sale.
So Exciting!!!
Let us know what you get! HOW SWEET!!!
maybe it is being paid in installments, or it was a deposit
Your man is so not slick like mine! My husband is having a Surprise 30th birthday party for me this month on my birthday (Christmas Eve). I didn't mean to figure it out but he's so horrible at hiding things. I really wish I didn't know about it but I will be acting surprised :) I guess the good news for us is if they were up to something, we would know :)
Sounds like he's doing 6 months same as cash or something like that. Let us know what you get! :)
Maybe part of it was paid cash, but the rest was credit.
It might be important to keep the receipt (just in case it needs to be returned or there is a warranty on it and it needs servicing) or it might be a nastier surprise if you end up not being the recipient of what ever this gift is.
If it were me, I'd be too curious to not ask about it.
Rental of something? Could be that it was rented for $230, but the shop wanted to make clear that if it wasn't returned it was worth $4500?
Is there a phone number you can call? Perhaps the store or service can clue you in.
