away from big city lights or any outside lights for that matter....can you see alot of stars in the sky on a clear night? I was just outside and it is a clear night...or any night around here.....and I see very little stars. The moon the big dipper the north star and just a few here and there.

What can I do next?

Except for all the trees blocking the view...
Yes, we see stars, and hear the birds, and breathe fresh air. We also get wallopped by more snow than in the nearest city as we are higher in elevation. I love my little country life. But, we do live about 10-15 minutes from a grocery store, and about 30 from everything else. Perfect!

I think Conroe is too close to the "city" to really see the stars well. You need to be in a more remote area.

we live in a very small town with very little lights and we can sit in our yard and see all the stars at night. To go out to the country we only have to drive a mile and we can see them by the millions.

I love staring at the stars at night when we camp out... even in our own back yard.

One more reason I would never move to a bigger city :)

One thing I miss about country life is the stars. We get "light pollution" here. Hard to see special celestial events.

I live in Northern CA and can't see that many stars where I live now but could when I lived in a small town, or when we go camping. If you get a chance, go see the stars. If you don't like camping you could always stay somewhere small, inside and make sure to go out after dark. Sorry I'm not familiar with Texas to give you ideas on places. I'm sure you'd want somewhere that has something to do during the day that interests you.

We have millions of stars. I can't see all of them, my kids and husband do though, well they sure see miore than I do.
On good nights we can see the Milky Way.

My husband has the star app on his phone. So we go out at night and can locate some of the ones with names.

Try the US Geological sites or NASA sites. Our Science museum in Richmond is amazing and can pull up just about any geological, celestial occurance. THey use the Geological sites. I have just never looked

Here in this smallish city (2million and change), I can see several hundred on a cold clear night below freezing. The major constellations only in other clear nights. Too much humidity makes the light pollution worse even on cloud free skies.

When we're in the mountains or out in the country? (we only spend half our time in the city). Millions.

We have family land out in the country and the kids are always wanting to go outside and look at the stars when we are out there at nighttime. It's fun. I grew up in OKC and with all the lights we could barely make out a plane about to land at Will Rogers Airport much less a few stars.

I would love to be able to have access to some web site that gave us reports of activity in the sky for our area. Like that meteor the other night, I would have loved to get the kids outside looking at that. No telling how long it would be before they might see something else like that.

We are sort of out in the country...

But yes just the other night getting out of the car to come in the house my little one said "WOW mom...all those stars are so cool"...I looked up to see a sky full of stars. It was quite fantastic to see. So glad he noticed!

We live basically on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in an area that promotes Dark Skies (streetlamps that only shine downwards, no big commercial lighting and several roads with no streetlights at all). The stars can be amazing and it is very easy to see the Milky Way. I've only seen better out in the desert.
