For Those That Have Already Been Through Menopause or Going Through It Now...

Ok. So I know that menopause (premenopausal symptoms) can start at all different ages for women.

When did the premenopausal symptoms begin for you? What were the first signs?

My issue recently (like within the last week or two), is that I have been getting (for lack of a better term) hot flash. I don't have high BP. There have been nights that I can't fall asleep until I stand on my porch (in March, in MI... It's still teens/20's at night) without anything on my feet! I throw a bathrobe on and go out on my porch with bare @ss feet to cool down. It's not every night and it's not even the warmest nights. This even happened a couple times during the day... So not just at night.

I was just curious about some of the other ladies. My family 'history' that I'm aware of (or been made aware of), no one has even had symptoms like this until they're in their 50s. I'm only 32!!!

If there's anything else you have in mind, please share!

Thanks!

So What Happened?

Well Denise... That happens to me anyways. LOL! : )
Thanks to those that replied! My periods have been a lot lighter the last few months. I have been on the NuvaRing for 2.5yrs and this is the first that I've dealt with the sudden hot flashes like this. I've always been a relatively 'hot sleeper' so I've always slept with light blankets or just a sheet with my feet out of the covers... But the instant sweat my butt off has been just killing me! I will likely talk to my Dr when I go next month. It is probably some sort of hormonal imbalance... We shall see.

And to the person that asked if I'd started my periods later... No, just the opposite. Most of the women in my family have started before age 10.

Well If the hot flashes are the ONLY symptom you are having it might be something other than perimenopause. Are you cycles still normal? I mean it is possible that is what you are going through but usually you also noticed other things like your cycles are off and either lighter or heaver than normal.
You could give your Ob a call and ask them. It's almost impossible for anyone to really know what you hormones status is since they are changing so much throughout the month so usually the diagnose is done by clinical symptoms instead of a blood test. My doctor told me to just go with it unless I start to bleed really bad or miss two periods and then call her.
I will give you my hormone help: Try natural progesterone cream! Honest that stuff saved my life and it's so much better than synthic homone treatment or low dose BC pills. Here is the one that I use: http://www.amazon.com/Emerita-Pro-Gest-Natural-Progestero...
Please check out the reviews.
It's not just for Perimenopause/Menopause but it's great for PMS too. You can get it at most health food stores or Sprouts if you have one close to you.
Best Regards,
C.

I'm 47. No hot flashes yet here but every woman is different.

I've had more of the "I want to physically pull your gizzards out right through your nostrils" symptoms.

I was older than you when I had my first symptoms - in my early 50s or maybe late 40s. But I've talked to a number of women who had symptoms in their thirties. Your best bet is to talk with your doctor.

As it turned out, my "flashes" were more warm than hot. However, I learned the knack of sticking one foot out from under the covers at night when I needed to.

You are right at the age when we can start having symptoms. Women are going through the change earlier and earlier just like girls and boys are developing earlier due the chemicals, antibiotics, hormones and pesticides they put in and on our foods. It could just be a hormone imbalance for you life can cause our hormones to change. There are a lot of natural products out there made with good things to help us all through hormone imbalance and through the 'Big M" If I hadn't suffered from migraines and found the cream that I now use to prevent them I am sure I would have had all of those terrible symtpoms and feelings that you and other women are talking about. Thank God for my migraines and for my Prolief cream! You can purchase a hormone saliva test on line or ask your Doctor if they will set you up with one that is the best and most accurate way to find out about your hormones. Hope this helped. Nuvaring well that explains it. There are synthetic hormones in birth control pills and IUD's etc. our body sees them as not natural and not wanted in our body so it fights them.

I have found Estroven, an herbal supplement, really helpful. What you're experiencing does sound like a hot flash. You can get them for reasons other than menopause. However, it can be something other than a hot flash too. It could be a anxiety attack, hormonal imbalance etc. I'd encourage you to see your doctor and mention what you've been experiencing. Sleep well!

I have heard that women who get their periods later do go through menopause earlier. Was that the case with you?
All the women in my family had to have hysterectomies because their symptoms were so bad. I started taking supplements when I was 40 and sailed through menopause. Let me know if you are interested in those. Shaklee also makes a Cooling Complex that can be applied to the back of the neck and will knock out a hot flash in minutes. It is safe and does not contain hormones.
If you are going to use hormone creams, make sure you do so with medical supervision.

My daughter and I went thru menopause early - she was in her early 30's and I was a few yrs later. My mom and her mom had hysterectomies in their 30's so I had no history to go on, and our doctors told us it wasn't possible. Still, it happened. 3 other daughters are past that age now and haven't started. Hot flashes, flooding period, irregular cycle - these were our symptoms. Flooding periods were the worst. Just so you know, health food stores can tell you about soy products that should help and stores that have things for cancer patients (wigs etc.) carry nities & pj's that are meant to keep you cooler. Good luck! It may just be a hormone imbalance. I think your doc can check your levels.

32 is a young age to go through pre-menopause.

Are you stressed?

It's about getting the body in balance. How is your diet? Do you get fresh fruits/veggies in your diet everyday? How about drinking water...1/2 your weight in ounces is the ideal daily intake.

Other things I've been doing and in fact for over 13 years, is a soy protein smoothie every morning. I also take whole food supplements, one is specifically for menopause.

I have a history of female problems on my moms and dads side of the family, so doing all of this has helped me ease into menopause.

But I am significantly older than you. There are many things that can help you. If you'd like a complimentary Personal Nutrition Consultation, call me at ###-###-####.
