Flylady Website

I just stumbled onto the Flylady website for house cleaning and home maintenance and I was wondering if there is anybody that belongs to this particular site and how it is. I read a little bit about it and it seems like it might be good to help me get my house in order, but 10 e-mails a day seems like a lot. I'm just looking for any opinions about this and if it is worth joining or not. Thanks

What can I do next?

I love the Fly lady and actually implemented her system to get my house in order! I actually just used her book! As a formerly ( and still working on it!) unorganized person I can't tell you how much this helped me! One of the biggest things is showering and getting dresses in the am, big difference! Also breaking everything down into manageble pieces. I do look at the web sight as well and I haven't started the zones yet, I am still getting the whole thing down! I think she say's it takes 9 months to a year! Good luck to you!

Hi S.,

I can't say enough about the Flylady! She has helped me transform every aspect of my life! cooking, cleaning, exercise, finances, holidays, relationships, marriage, motherhood, and most importantly, taking care of myself!

You have the option of signing up for the "Daily Digest" which is all of the day's email delivered at one time, instead of individually. I highly recommend that.

Have fun!

love, P.

My mom swears by it. She went from an extremely cluttered house to a house that is very lived in, not quite model home, but getting there. I haven't subscribed for the same reason. I look forward to reading the responses.

Flylady is a fun website and has a lot of good information and motivation. I joined and just learned to delete a lot of the stuff I'd already read. Then when I just got sick of it, I unsubscribed. It's easy enough to do that, and then to resubscribe at a later date if you want to.

I really liked the advice, and felt it helped me get on track. The daily testimonials were a little overwhelming, and I felt as though that was putting more clutter in my life. I was a member for about a year, and decided to quit, in part because of the extra mail, and because I felt I had a good handle on the general idea. I still use many of the concepts that I learned from FlyLady today.

Flylady is a wonderful resource if you don't know where to start on organizing your home. She's positive and although the ideas are basics for some, they are lifesavers if you are overwhelmed. I used to get the e-mails, but eventually cancelled when I couldn't keep up with my inbox. I now just own her book, "Sink Reflections" by Marla Cilley. All the same info, but it's up to me to refer to it as needed, rather than an e-mail that tells me to change my laundry or some such thing.

Hey there,

I was a 'member' of the flylady for about a year. The thing I found useful was to delete all the emails everyday accept for 1. That way, I was instilling just 1 new technique at a time. For example, the technique about that one spot in the house where everything ends up (like the small table by the door). I gradually adopted 1 at a time and it worked.

Thanks for mentioning this website again...I'm going to resign up and learn some new techniques and brush up on the ones that I've forgotten...like getting dressed to the shoes! I've been home on bed rest for 5 weeks now and I think that would really help me at this point.

Have fun! And be your own master of the "delete" key. *grin*

S.,

My boys (now 6 & 8) were a little younger than yours when I came upon the Flylady website. I LOVED IT! Now, let me tell you that you have to take what she says with a grain of salt. I found it almost impossible to keep up with her schedule with two very young boys constantly making a mess behind me. It also helped give me a routine when I needed one because I seemed to have all the time in the world but nothing ever got done.

There were some aspects of it that I liked and still do. I found that her 27 fling boogies (where you tackle a room or a closet getting rid of 27 things - either to where they belong, to the trash, or good will) is very therapeutic for me. When I get to feeling down I straighten out a cupboard. In fact my best friend and I are also saying ," I'm doing a flylady boogie!" I also LOVED her notebook idea. So now I have a notebook on my table with dividers that has all the info I use on a regular basis - emergency info, membership cards to places we do not go to frequently, addresses & phone numbers along with a folder with cards, envelopes & stamps, a receipts folder (this is very handy at Xmas time), and a few other sections. This way my papers all together at my fingertips. I still do a weekly homeblessing, but now my boys are old enough to help so I get a lot more done in 1 hour than I used to. I try to break up the laundry so I am tackling one load a day, not 8 on a Saturday. And the kitchen is neat & tidy when I go to bed at night (probably 27 out of 30 nights a month - sometimes you just gotta go to bed).

As for all the emails, I think you can sign up to get the digest and just get one email a day that has all the info.

Enjoy!
