Yellow safety float sold almost everywhere (I bought mine at WalMart) has two rings, a baby seat and a cushioned back to keep them upright. It's safe, works great and it easy to interact with them in the pool.
Hi Mommies~
This will be my 9-month-old daughter's first summer and we are looking to buy her some sort of floaty for the pool! I have no idea what to buy and would love some guidance! What did your kiddo like in the pool at this age...did they even like the pool? My DD loves bathtime so I am hopeful swimming will be something she enjoys...if not, it will be one hot summer!
Thanks for your help!

Wow! Thanks so much for the great feedback! We purchased one at Target last night...I can't wait for some fun in the pool!

My children both loved the "ride on" floats. My daughter had one that looked like a dog and had the little seat to sit in. You can find many different kinds at walmart. Some are coastgaurd approved, but most are not. As long as you are right there though it is not necessary for them to be costgaurd approved.
Hope this helps. Have a great summer.
My kids LOVED the rings with seats in them - kinda individual boats. They have them now with umbrellas.
I tried so many and the one that mine liked the best was the one where they sit in the middle of a ring that you inflate around the outer part of it. I would say the ring is about 2-3 feet wide. You can twist it to fold it up and put back in the carrying bag. I got it at Target and want to say it was around $10.
I took my daughter swimming at 5mo. She loved it, so I put her in Mommy n Me swim lessons last summer. (She 18mo. now.) One of the things we learned in her lessons was not to give babies a false sense of security in the water. They need to learn at an early age that the water can be dangerous. We did buy her a little blow-up raft to use in the pool for fun--one she could sit in, like a little boat--they have them at Target or Walmart. But I would encourage you to spend most of the time holding her in the water. Show her how to hold on to the side of the pool and how to kick her feet. My daughter can jump off the side step and kick (underwater) to me. She holds her breath now and isn't afraid of going under. It's fun to swim with her, but very important to teach her the rules of the pool.
Good luck! Swimming is so fun, and it will wear her out!
When my daughter was 7 months old, we started using a blue float with a canopy that we got from Target. I happened to see that it is on sale this week in the Target ad for about 12.00. It was great at the pool and beach. It should last her through a couple more summers.
I also like the way you can fold it up(still blown up) to store.
Hi J.,
I see you got tons of responses on the floatly. There are some great floaties that you can get at target and wal-mart with canopies over them.
My little boy loved the innertubes that had the chair built-in.
Have a great summer in the pool!

We are just about to have our first, so I can't tell you from first hand experience.
What a fun time!

My sisters both just bought a cute frog float from Costco. It looks better than some others, because there is mesh around it so that the kids can get their hands in the water and splash around. With most of the bigger blow up type seats, only their feet and bottom are in the water, and there is no way for them to splash around. I even think it looks like you could bring a few bath toys that she could play with while she is in the seat. If I can find a link for it, I will let you know. Good luck, we are looking for some great ideas for my 1 year old boy as well! ~A.~ Just found this one..it is not exactly the same, but better because of the sun shade...http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=sc_ri_1/601-###-...
My daughter LOVED/LOVES the pool. When she was that little we just got her one of those yellow rings that had the little seat thing in it for her legs to go through from walmart. Its made for little ones. :) Of course its new so it might take her a time or two to realize its all good but she soon will and then you wont be able to get her out probably like my DD lol. I also brought a couple of her bath toys that floated with me the first couple times as it seemed to help her realize that it was just kinda like a big tub. :)
My daughter is 14 months and I got her a float by swimways (swimways.com) that looks like a lady bug and it folds up and goes in mesh bag with strap. It was really cute. However when i was in the pool store the other day I saw one that looked similar that had a canopy top. If you have a local pool supply store I would check it out. I think even walmart carries baby floats.
I love the stuff you can get from
