Hi Moms.....we are going to use a "real" baby sitter for the first time for our 3 & 5 year old boys. We live very close to the grandmas/pas and aunts/uncles so they have always watched our kids. My 3 year olds sunday school teacher is a gem and we are going to have her watch the kids a couple of hours, just for the sake of getting the kids used to having someone other then grandma/pa do it. I am wondering what the "going rate" is for babysitters these days. Back in the day when I babysat, the parents of the family picked me up and dropped me off....is that still the norm? Thanks in advance for the help :)

What can I do next?

we just used a "real" babysitter for the first time ever last week. she is licensed and her rates are $2.50 for the first child and $1.50 for every child added. she is licensed, your sitter is younger then i would say drop the .50 off both children. as far as how she is going to get to your house and home, i would ask her and her parents how they would like to handle it.

good luck! on tuesday when it was the first time having someone other than my mom watching the kids i was so worried all day (even thou i trust the lady and have knowen her for almost 15 years) just about the little things i know they like and thier routine. all fears quickly left when i walked in and my son gave me a BIG hug and then went over to play with the other child there.

It really depends in the area you live. Big cities usually have to pay more than smaller cities or towns.

We're near St. Cloud and the going rate is about $2 to $3 an hour per kid. Daycares around here only get on average of $2 per hour too. And the more kids you have, the "better deal" you get.....So to speak. If you had 3 kids I would only pay about $6 an hour.... where for 2 kids I would pay $5.....

Again, it depends on your area. Call a neighbor or friend and ask what the going rate is around you.

I pay $6 for one kid and $8 for two...when we use them, we have a older girl (normaly older than 20)from our daycare come and she will drive herself to our house.

I think it somewhat depends on the age of the babysitter and how much you ask them to do. My daughter is 13 and gets $4-5 dollars/hour for first child and $1-2 dollars/hour for each additional child. We sometimes do the driving and sometimes they do. It kind of depends on what we have going on. I really want her to get the experience so if I can help out with driving I do.

I have three children 5,3,and 4mos If I were to get a real babysiter for the two older ones I would pay anywhere from 4-10 dollars an hour per child. I am not sure if that is good or bad either but I guess I have never had any problem. I think that child care is very important and will pay what I need to get and keep a good babysiter. I will watch you posting to see all the advice

I pay $5/hour for 2 kids. I round up for partial hours and if they do the little extras that not everyone does, like making sure things are picked up or doing dishes.
