You might try putting Oral Jel or some numbing stuff like that around the gum area. Not sure what flavors they have out there though. I know the "regular" Oral Jel isn't too tasty but it sure helps, at least for awhile. Good Luck.
Hello!
My 6 yr old's first tooth came loose today. After the first excitement her gum is now sore of course. Do you have any recommendations that might help with that? I am making her some camomille tea right now. If nothing else, it would make her feel better to do something else rather than just wiggle and wait: )
Thank you much!

Popsicles or snocones. You could try having her gargle with warm salt water and that is maybe the best but my kids don't like that remedy. The soreness is pretty normal for us around here. Every tooth is different and some teeth cause some discomfort and some don't. Conversely, if she complains excessively, give her the options: Deal with it, string and door knob (explain how that works) or a trip to the dentist--but the tooth fairy will leave less money for the last option. Mine stopped complaining after that. LOL.
How sore? None of my kids complained about pain with the loss of teeth.
My one son complained but that was only because I pulled the tooth because he wasn't eating anything but even that only lasted for an hour until he was no longer attention seeking.
I guess I am just wondering if he isn't enjoying the spotlight and there really isn't anything hurting. None of my kids friends complained of any pain from tooth loss since it isn't like actually having a tooth pulled the new one just pushes it out.
Maybe it is tender.
But make sure, the loose socket, is not swollen or infected.
Sometimes, food gets stuck in there, because the gums around the tooth are loose and has gaps in it... thus, food particles can get stuck in there and cause infection.
Maybe use a water pick to clean her teeth too, and brush the area, but gently.
That is what our Pediatric Dentist, said.
It can take TIME.... just so you know, for the tooth to actually fall out.
Sometimes, months. And this is normal.
I will be watching as I have a 6 yr old who has not lost any teeth and want to be prepared.
Good luck.
