Just another thought....all the advice so far is great. If you have one near you, try the Habitat for Humanity stores that are popping up. Also, there is another place called 'Re-Store'....you can actually put in a request for items donated to these stores. Consider it a "thrift shop" for houses. These people donate all things that come out of houses that are torn down or remodeled, and the proceeds go to families in need. You could get the fireplace key AND help others!!!
Good Luck!!

there i s a fireplac enad chimmeny store on 518 in league city they might be able to help
Check inside the fireplace - there should be a tag with the manufacturer name and model and serial number. You can email the manufacturer and ask them or buy the replacement parts from them.
Try a plumbing supply store, Bering's (if you're in the Houston area), or Amazon for the gas key. I am not sure you can just buy a replacement remote control...I think you will have to have a new receiver installed.
If Lowes or Home Depot don't have one; try looking and ordering online. I bet some place over the internet carries one.
There is actually a fireplace company called Churchill's fireside & Patio in westlake that you should be able to get a key from. They are at 3300 Beecaves Rd. ###-###-####
