Finding the Right Bottle

I perfer the Avent bottles but that was before the soothie bottles. I've never tried those. Most of the time though it depends on if the baby has a perference. My son would only take Avent bottles but my daughter did not care.
The Playtex vent aires were ok also.

Every baby is different. My daughter uses the Avent bottles and we never tried anything else. Maybe we should have tried something else though, because she was pretty colicky and also had reflux and the Avent bottles filled up with bubbles (they still fill with bubbles, but she's over the colic - and reflux too, for the most part). I think she got too much air in her tummy from them.

If I had it to do all over again, I would choose a bottle that you use the drop-ins in. The drop-ins just collapse and there is no air left in them for the baby to swallow. I know that Playtex makes bottles with drop-ins and I just saw some new ones that Avent makes too (I think they're called Avent Tempo). You can even get generic drop-ins for a little cheaper (I know I have seen them at Publix).

It takes some trial and error, so just buy one or two until you know if your baby likes it. Dr. Brown's is popular for reducing gas. The one your child likes!! My second daughter loved the cheappy ones you get at Walmart. I think they were gerber and came three in a package. That's all she wanted. I had fancy expensive ones from my first daughter who was a preemie and she wanted no part of those. Good Luck

There is no "best", sorry. If he takes to the first one you try, great! I used the playtex drop ins. I know you have to buy the replacements, but I loved the fact that I then only had to worry about keeping the nipples sterile. Good luck, just buy a couple at a time until you know for sure they will work out.

Which ever one your son likes. Thats how it was for me. We bought all different types of bottles, from the Dr. Brown to the cheap walmart ones. My son as a new born liked the parents choice and for him it seemed to help with gas/colic. By 4 months he refused to drink from those's and prefered the evenflo cheap ones from wal-mart. He's picky...lol. Now we have discovered the right sippy cup for him after buying a bunch of the wrong ones. Its all about trial and error in finding whats right for your baby.

I am a grandma and my daugter used the avent bottles and they were the best grandson had gas and colic and gas bad. So after much frustration we got the Dr. Brown bottles and they worked like a charm. They help keep any air from getting to him from the bottle. She is now pregnant again and we will purchase the Dr. Brown bottles for this little one since they worked so well with the first child. The extra work it took to clean them way out weighed the fussy baby. The cost is not too bad for 3 bottles it run 12.99 at Walmart. But these bottles will take you all the way through the first year without having to replace anything but the nipples. Well worth having. My daughter was able to pass them on to another mom after her first child and they were still in good shape then. Best Wishes and Congratulations on your new little one.

I love Soothies bottles and pacifers. I breastfeed and when I do pump that is what I use.

I breastfed for the most part, but the Playtex VentAir ones were really nice.

I use Playtex Nursers and I LOVE them! We have NO gas or spitting up issues! HTH

A little about me: I am a SAHM to 3 Beautiful Boys! They are 8,5,3 months. My DH and I have been together for 10yrs and married for 6yrs.

I started with Avent, but went to Dr. Brown's and they were WORNDERFUL

we love the Dr brown's bottles, but they are a pain if your trying to mix formula in them, but for pumped breast milk they are great, otherwise we like the Playtex VentAire standard. We tryed the wider nipple origionally, but I think she was getting too much air in her mouth and having more gas, the standard works very well for her. Good luck

I really liked the playtex bottles with the disposable liners. I was able to push the extra air out of the bottle so there was less in my babies bellies. I also liked that it was a pretty easy clean up.

Your request reminded me of the stress of new born babies and trying to do everything right. I noticed lots of Mom's said they loved the bottles with the liners. I hated them. I also had a bottle warmer that made the bottles too hot.

Here is what the nurse at the hospital taught me and it saved a lot of problems. To heat bottles take a coffee mug and fill half way with water and heat in the microwave just the cup and water. Take the cup out and place the bottle in the water and the bottle will warm up nicely in about a minute. Never heat a bottle in the microwave because it heats unevenly and could scald the baby!

On bottles I used every one on the market. The only advice I can say is use the clear plastic nipples instead of the orange ones. Someone told me that the clear plastic does not fall apart and degrade over time like the orange ones. Really it is the baby that decides what they like, not Mom. That is what I found to be true for mine. It was a matter of trying all the different ones and seeing what mine liked.

One piece of advise. Your never going to be prefect. Do the best that you can and learn as you go. We all make mistakes with newborns, it is quite a learning curve. Like the time I thought I had the bottle top on and didn't and ended up dumping a full bottle in my babies face. It was so awful but she is fine. Just take every day a step at a time and treasure and and enjoy the good times. Both you and the baby will be fine! It gets much easier as time goes by and then you have to face and learn completely new challenges just when you felt you had it all under control. So, don't sweat the small stuff. As long as the baby is healthy and loved, it will all work out.
