hi, my older daughter (13 year old now) wore a gown that my mother in law made many years ago for her own daughter. recently that daughter's daughter wore the gown. now I have a new daughter as well. i didn't mind my older daughter wearing this gown though i AM the sort that would like the keepsake myslef to keep for my daughter(s). but i knew it meant a lot to my mil for her granddaughter to wear it. i gave in without any arguement...besides it was pretty much just assumed. anwyay, now my sister in law has had her baby girl (she's also sentimental about htese thigns) and suddenly i really do see that that gown never would pass to my daughter. my sister in law already has plans to shadow box it and keep in her daughters room. i absolutely think that she is intitled to that, of course, but htat leaves my own daughter with out that keepsake. too late for my older daughter. I know some may say 'your daughter can still have her future daughters wear it--just ask her aunt" but that's different. I guess I just assumed (with out really thinking about it) that the dress would stay with grandma...

anyway, for my new little girl i'd just as soon go out and buy our own gown. i know my mil will still want her in the one she made but circumstances are working against that b/c our godfather of choice and his wife can't travel to dallas until our baby is almost six months old and she won't fit in the gown then. so, i'm thinking i'll get baby's portrait made for grandma in her gown then go get my own fabulous choice of gown!!! :) sooooo, does anyone know a great store or boutique in dallas area to find one? I'd love one of Irish linen. i don't really want to nor can talk husband into a super expensive gown but i could go up to $75 easy and maybe $100 with some cajolery. If i really went crazy i could talk hubby into $150 but i'd hate to do that! LOLOL

i see tons of online sources but i'm not happy about ordering something so expensive and special with out being able to see and touch it. I'd love to know if you have any ideas. I've been to a few boutiques and find the prices are usually outrageoius for simple things/every day outfits so i imagine I won't be happy with a special occasion outfit! I hope to get lucky. I'll have to wait to buy it just before the event though b/c there isn't a sure way to know what month it will be....depends on the godparents. thanks for your help!
thanks~!

I don't know about Irish Linen, but you might check Dillard's. I got a beautiful gown there for about $40 I think. Tuesday Morning has them sometimes too. Maybe call Chocolate Soup to see if they ever have any. I had to buy my own after it got too hard/impractical to share my mother-in-law's--lots of grandchildren in our family. My sister-in-law has had to buy her own since then too. I love the idea of heirlooms, but starting your own tradition is great too. Congratulations!

I bought my daughters' Christening gown on ebay from dressforprincess. It was $32.95 and just gorgeous. If you look, it's the white christening gown with train. It's well made with lovely bead work and fabric. Good luck!

I think that St. Michael's Women's Exchange in Highland Park Village has exactly what you're looking for.
