Fibromyalgia and Planning a 2Nd Pregnancy

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in late July. It developed after the birth of my first child in February 2009. I am currently on 75 mg of amitryptaline per day, which is all I need on most days. Sometimes if I push myself, I need a Flexaril or sometimes even a Percocet. My husband and I have started discussing having a second child and we're shooting to get pregnant sometime in late Summer/early Fall next year.
I know I won't be able to take the amitryptaline or other meds while we're trying to concieve and while I'm pregnant.
Does anyone have any advice on what I can do now to help prepare my body for the stress of another pregnancy? I am not in the best shape and I am about 30 lbs. overweight. I have been trying to exercise, but my tolerance is poor due to the fibromyalgia.
Have any of you moms out there been pregnant with fibro?

What can I do next?

I haven't personally been pregnant with fibro, but may I suggest a prenatal yoga class? They are lower impact than regular ones and will still help your body get in shape for birthing. http://consumer.healthday.com/Article.asp?AID=644412 If it's the meds you're worried about, check out http://www.safefetus.com/ . It's a good resource for that kind of thing.

I also deal with fibromyaligia, but not while I had my 2 boys. And I don't believe there are any prescription meds u are allowed to take while being pregnant. Allow I don't know for sure. And I am right there with u about being about 30 #'s overweight, when u are hurting you don't want to get up and get on a exercise bike or go walking. I would talk to your Dr and see if there are any meds that you can take during your pregnancy and what you can do now to prepare yourself, maybe even change to those meds now as well. Good Luck

I'm sorry that you are struggling with this. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue while pregnant with the second of my four children. Although, I was experiencing symptoms and major flares long before the diagnosis. Since that time, I have also been diagnosed with lupus, and several other related conditions. For a long time I was living on ibuprofen and using an OTC topical cream to deal with the pain. However, I've since learned that it only made things worse. I changed my diet, added some very helpful supplements, and haven't taken prescription or OTC meds in years. Despite a few issues, my pregnancies were fine. My last three babies were born at home, the last two unassisted. I still have flares once every month or so, but I've learned to handle it. I had to learn how to adjust my life, and say no to certain things. Not pushing it was probably the most difficult adjustment for a type A personality like me. I would be happy to talk with you about it anytime. I hope this helps.
