Hi Moms!

I was recently diagnosed with Fibrocystic Disease, (of the breast), after a rough 3 weeks that resulted in surgery to have two lumps removed and checked for cancer..Benign, thank god!!) But I just thought of something....would that affect getting pregnant? My husband and I were hoping to have another baby. I didn't even think to ask the doctor when I was diagnosed if this is something that could affect that. Does anyone know?

What can I do next?

hi jeanmarie, i was diagnosed with fibocystic disease of the breast when i was 13 years old. it didnt affect me getting pregnant. the only thing i was told was to avoid chocolate, salt and caffine a week before during and after my period. i never had to have any lumps removed but i feel them in there if i dont abstain from those 3 things. (which i dont). i dont think it should affect getting pregnant at all. it didnt even affect my breast feeding. if you have any questions feel free to message me. hope this helps.-J.

I think you should take a quick look at this link for other things you can do to control your problem. Alot of times, simple changes in diet will totally reverse this problem. And no, it shouldn't have any affect on future pregnancies.

Hi Jeanmarie,

I too have Fibrocystic Breast Disease and have 5 children, so the answer to your question is no it will not effect you having another child or breast feeding for that matter. The one thing you do need to realize is that it is hard for us to tell one lump from being normal or not. Instead of going for yearly breast exams, I have mine checked twice a year or whenever I go see my gynecologist he automatically checks me, just to be on the safe side. Plus like you I had a scare and as you know it is emotionally hard on us and our family, I done want to go down that road again. Hope this helps.

Hugs,
T.
