Lump in Breast When Pms-ing? Did You Also Have It When Pregnant?

My sister and I both get a slightly painful lump in our left breast while we are having pms. It goes away when we start our periods. We are ttc and it's a week until my period and I already have the lump starting. Do you get this? If so, did it go away if you actually got pregnant?
And yes, I've had it checked. It's just dense breast tissue that I get every month. No biggie. I don't think I'm pregnant this month b/c of the breast lump....

What can I do next?

I used to have something that sounds like this, except it was multiple lumps. Same thing - dense breast tissue. They called it fibrocystic breast disease - benign but painful and affected by hormones. In my case, it often looked suspicious on mammograms so I had to have a lot of repeat scans as well as some biopsies. They were all negative but it was stressful and expensive. They didn't go away when I was pregnant although they kind of got mixed in with the pregnancy-related breast tenderness and swelling. Since I started supplementing with a breast-health product, the cysts have disappeared and even my doctor can't find them. She's thrilled with what I'm doing and said to keep going because it's safe and also a good preventive for osteoporosis. Happy to help you and your sister if you want more info.

This is extremely common. Fibro-cystic breasts! Mine did go away when I was pregnant but not until further along when I started getting all my milk ready. Do you drink a lot of caffeine? That makes it worse! If you cut back on caffeine, and lose the underwire it should help with this a lot. This is usually common in both breasts with multiple lumps but as long as you have had it checked (I did too) you should be ok. If you notice any changes in the size or shape or timing of the lump that's reasons to be seen again.

Hope this helps!

It is probably hormone related, and so yes, you'll probably get it while pregnant. I have a family member that has this same condition and her's got worse (more painful as hers hurt) while she was pregnant because of the abundance of hormones during pregnancy.

Sounds like fibrocystic breasts, as others have noted. I have it too and it can be painful and scary. Learn how it feels so you do not mistake it for a potentially cancerous lump (or vice versa); if the lump feels rock-hard like a dried pea, it is one to have checked immediately. Fibrocystic lumps tend to feel softer and are often larger. But do not go by what we say here only -- see your ob/gyn and get a diagnosis of fibrocystic breast tissue, as well as advice about how to reduce these lumps (I know you've already seen your doctor but did she/he give this diagnosis or any advice?). In some women, caffeine consumption causes these to flare up and hurt worse than if they cut out caffeine, so if you drink sodas with caffeine (even non-cola ones can have it) and/or coffee, cut back or even cut out those drinks and see if it helps over time. Caffeine causes mine to be much worse, within hours of consuming even a little caffeine, so I have eliminated it entirely. Your doctor might recommend certain supplements or other changes. This condition does not really "cure" but can be managed somewhat and most importantly, know the difference between how these lumps feel to you and how a possibly cancerous lump would feel -- your doctor should be able to show you.
