Anyone have issues with recurrent fevers in their child? We've been dealing with this for a year now with my 3 1/2 year old. My daughter will very often have fevers of 99-100. The doctor doesn't consider them fevers because they aren't high enough. I, however, can see the change come over her. She gets droopy, lethargic, pale when it happens. It definitely happens more if there is any commotion (holidays, visitors, etc.) but is not limited to these times. Sometimes it spikes higher but mostly 99-100. I'm getting very frustrated and afraid we may be missing something more serious. Anyone been through this? Gotten a diagnosis?

Thanks!

This may sound silly but two of my three kids get a low-grade fever when they are growing. The symptoms are typically the same, they act a bit fussy, don't like people around them and they run the little fever. I can usually see the signs coming on and I try to get them more sleep and get them tylenol when the fever hits. Especially with my son who gets pretty bad growing pains with it.

Good luck, hope this helps.

It sounds like her body just gets warmer when she's tired. My 3rd daughter came out of the womb unable to control her temp. They had her taking her temp every half hour the first few days. Then she did get sick. She was sickly after that. I don't know if those two things are connected.

I am not certain you need to worry. But I don't think you would be out of line asking for a complete blood workup just to be certain. After all, doctors are wrong sometimes and mothers intuition is sometimes the best defense our children have. I think it's better to be sure than to regret not doing enough later. BUT, I doubt it's more than her just going through a tired phase/growth spurt or fighting a virus that's going around.

Yes, and it's a virus that's going around here. We've had it recurring for the last 3 weeks...but the temps will go up to 102 and then back down. It could be your LO has the same nasty little bug :(

My son overheats quite frequently when he's active/excited. If I temp him he'll register at 99-101. Strip his shirt off of him, however, and give him a glass of water or milk and he cools right down to normal and perks back up. It happened much more frequently as a toddler. As he's gotten older, his homeostatic abilities have improved a lot. It irritate my husband no end that I'd be stripping layers off him either in public OR when my husband was "hot"... but my husband doesn't understand or try to understand science at all.

My daughter who is 6 has had a similar problem for about a year now as well. Her fever however has been much worse..spiking to as high as 103.7 They come about every 2-3 months and were lasting at least a week(although the first one lasted 2 weeks and the doctors said it was just a viral thing). As long as I kept alternating the fever medicine she up and running around, but if we tried to skip a dose the fever spiked so fast that one minute she is playing fine and a minute later she is drained of color, tired and cold. The 4th time she had it I said enough of this and brought her to the doctor again....to find out she had hand foot mouth disease! They did a blood work up on her to be safe and didn't find anything wrong. I'm still a little concerned at the regularity, but knock on wood we've passed the 3 month mark with no fever! I will say that she is quite tall for her age and always has been, so it's possible these fevers coincided with growth spurts. Hope this helps ease your mind some...it's never easy when our kids are sick or uncomfortable.

I don't think it's a nasty virus if it's been going on for a year. I'd also work to strengthen her immune system with a really good, comprehensive, liquid supplement. I think Reliv Kids' NOW is the best. It might do the trick with the fevers and it certainly will help her get enough nourishment, which is a good thing overall. Kids don't eat well, and for kids who don't absorb nutrients completely, chronic problems can occur. Besides, our food is way down in nutrient levels due to pollution and growing techniques and the way they gas the produce just to make it last longer. So even good eaters are nutrient-deficient. So says the American Medical Association - in 2002 they recommended that everyone supplement, and they said liquid is the best (ideally, a powder you mix in liquid, not a pre-mixed product which loses potency).

The temp may not be high, but it's recurrent and it's affecting her behavior. I wouldn't ignore it. If the nutrition doesn't take care of it and if it continues, I'd also try another doctor and get a work-up.
