Start by getting a new doctor. Doctor's should have someone call 24/7!
If he doesn't look "toxic" - really sick and lethargic, not eating, not playing - you can wait until morning to call the doctor. Give him plenty of fluids. A tepid bath could help cool him off.

Are there any other symptoms? If he is not uncomfortable, I wouldn't even give the motrin or tylenol. A fever is a body's natural way of fighting something off. If it is just a fever, just let it do its job. If he is lethargic, hurting, etc., then there is room for more concern. Is he saying his ears hurt? If not, then I would not worry about that.

Anytime I have ever called the ped for a fever its the same story. give lots of fluid, let them rest, if it gets over 104 and will not come down w/ meds take them in, if they are very lethargic take them in, if they are showing sign of dehydration take them in.
How long ago did have the tubes put in? At 3 he should be able to tell you if anything hurts. There is a lot going around right now. Some kids tend to get fevers w/ everything while others do not. My oldest has only gotten fevers with lyme disease and h1n1 flu. My youngest gets them with everything and usually they are high. If he says his ears or throat hurts I would take him into an urgent care or emergency room otherwise I would try and wait it out. Seems like kids know when the doctor's office is closed and this is when they get sick.

I suggest to go to Urgent care. They are open on weekends and have doctors available. It's much less expensive than Emergency care.
Hope your son will recover soon.

forget the cool compresses, he needs to be in a warm tub, much like a hot tub to bring the temperature down gradually over 20-30 minutes,,, COOL = shivers, shivers = higher fever!!!

Do you think it is a virus? If so then it sounds like you are doing all the right things, but you did not share symptoms with us.

Is he pulling on his ears or complaining of ear pain? The tubes can push themselves out without you ever seeing it. So, if you think he may have an ear infection go to an Urgent Care. Also, a stiff neck is a reason to go to urgent care.

Call a different clinic! There must be more than one in your area. Is there an "Urgent Care" in any of the clinics?

CPMC has an after hours urgent care for the little kids. I had to take my daughter there years ago now, on a late SUnday with an early Monday flight, and a raging ear infection. good luck.

There's a "fever bug" going around. That isn't a horrible fever, very common for that age. I'm sure if you would take his temp 1-1 1/2 hrs after taking the medicine it will have come down. It may not totally go away which is normal, but it should be down. Yes, it pops back up but there again that is normal. Running a higher temp is very normal with viruses and they usually will run it's course in 3-4 days. The most important thing is to keep him hydrated with water, gatorade, or any kids drinks like gatorade to get the electrolytes back in him that his body is using up to fight the fever.

Depending on how long he has had the fever, I would definitely take him to an urgent care center. You have to have a phone number or location of an urgent care for night time or weekend illnesses.

Especially since he has the tubes in his ears, his body might be fighting off an infection. Good luck with your little guy!

google urgent care and name of your town. google medexpress and name of your town. if all fails, take him to cvs minute clinic. they can do a throat swab there, check ears and even give rx for antibiotic if he has an infection. all insurances, i believe, are accepted
good luck

That really isnt super high for a little person. I say fluids, and rest. If you feel he needs to be seen, do you have a minute clinic type of place around. They give great care, and it is usually ALOT less than urgent care.

Put him in a cool bath and it should help his fever go down, maybe give him some toys so he will stay there for awhile. If the water heats up because of his fever, put a few ice cubes at a time. And I agree with the others, there should be someone to talk to. Most offices have a doctor on call...or the urgent care. You can give him popsicles too & fluids.
good luck

If you are truly worried, you can take him to a local urgent care clinic. They take walk-ins without needing an appointment. You can give Tylenol, then Motrin in 3 hours, then Tylenol again in 3 hours and keep on repeating this pattern until the fever comes down.

But, as a doctor myself, I would say that you need to get another doctor! There should never be a situation in which there is no one on call to give advice in an urgent situation, or even one in which you are very worried. All responsible doctors have a system in which someone covers for him/her when they are not available.

If the temp is below 103, just keep doing what you are doing. You don't need to go to the ER unless there is trouble breathing, any signs of being disoriented, or a seizure. If he's relatively comfortable and behaving normally (maybe subdued but generally okay), then keep up with the tylenol. A cool bath helps. Not sure what the weather's like where you are, but if you have access to a cool swimming pool, that can cool him down too. Don't overdress him - keep him cool.
