Feeling Depressed and Needing to Vent

I know there is nothing I can do about this but I was just feeling so depressed when I received news this evening that a very close family friend died today in Iraq while working as a medic. I didn't even get all the details or anything but this is so sad. I feel so mad that he was there helping others and he paid with his life. Oh my g-sh. I am just besides myself. This hits way too close to home.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your warm and kind responses. It really helps to cope with things when others are so compassionate. Unfortunately we still have not received the full details ofhis death but they had a memorial service and I was able to hear it posted online. (It was here in Chicago but I've got two little ones) Anyways, it is very sad but I firmly believe there is a superior plan for his future in heaven and that he is in a better place. It's hard to deal with but I'm trying to just focus on the positive. Wow. What a true loss. He was only 20 years old. May his memory be a blessing...

That is terribly sad & you are doing the right thing by expressing your sadness & venting.
We can remember how to cope by watching our little ones. They hurt, cry & move on. Sometimes as adults we don't allow ourselves to feel & express our sadness.
Wishing you healing.

I am very sorry for your loss. But please don't be mad about his circumstances causing his death. He was in Iraq helping others....he was a hero! He knew the danger and still chose to do it. That is so brave and he should be celebrated. He was obviously a great person, and that makes it more of a loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. Let yourself feel mad. It's part of the grieving process. When I'm sad I always snuggle with my little girl and it helps me get through it. I will be praying for you and your family.
*Hugs*

A sudden death brings a wave a emotion that just knocks our sense of balance completely off. I'm sorry for your loss and the emotions you feel are only the begining. About three years ago, I lost a very close friend unexpectedly, we were about 38. I had just seen him the day before, but had my children in my car and was en route to something pressing (so pressing I can't even recall what it was), so I didn't stop to talk. He died that night. The pain is horrible when you lose someone so close.

Pray for him and his family today. I will stop and say a prayer for you too. Although you cannot avoid your pain and loss, you can accept the compassion of those around you, extend sympathy and support to the family, and, above all, love those who are lucky enough to share your life.

Best wishes,
L.
