Right now the main source of food (nutrition wise) is the breast milk. Starting foods right now is getting them used to different tastes and textures. My little boy is 9 months old and he too is a very large baby. He is 28 lbs and wears size 18 mos. BUT... his doctor LOVES it!! Because it is breast milk, there is no need to worry as the "rolls" will come off once he starts walking. (My oldest boy who is 8yrs old is tall and skinny but also started out chunky..hehe) Anyways, as far as what and when to feed...I am a licensed childcare provider and I am on the food program which is VERY specific about what we have to feed the children. For a 10 month old they list the following:
BREAKFAST/LUNCH/DINNER:
6-8oz breast milk or formula
2-4 tbsp infant cereal
1-4 tbst fruit and/or vegetable
SNACK:
2-4oz breast milk or formula
0-1/2 slice bread OR 0-2 crackers
For my son I do the cereal and fruit/veggi first and then offer the breast after, I let him go until he is finished.. I don't pump to measure. Also, I have 2 snack times and if my son gets hungry before that I will offer the breast. The rule of thumb at this age is to let your child guide you. If they are hungry, feed them. If they are done, do not force them to eat. If it's time to eat and they won't.. don't force it... they will not let themselves starve. Good Luck.
