Father's Day Children's Book

I want to start a tradition in my family for Father's Day. My daughter LOVES having her daddy read her stories, and he LOVES reading to her. So I thought that every year on Father's day the kids could give their dad a book that he could read to them. Does anyone have title suggestions? I would like the book to be about fathers, parents, family, etc.

Thanks in advance!

There's a series by Nick Butterworth about family members; My Dad is Brilliant; My Mum is Fantastic; My Grandma is Wonderful etc. He's English so some of the spellings and expressions are a little different. Publisher: Walker Books.
Have fun reading!

There are some great books offered by Barefoot Books. Get on their website (you could just google Barefoot Books and it will pop up) and you can browse through their selections or request a catalog. I like their books because they teach a lesson and have wonderful pictures and stories. They also have age suggestions on what age is best to read the story to and what age they can read it on their own. I have a 15 month old and one on the way, and I have ordered many books off of their website. My daughter especially like Dragon on the Doorstep, The Animal
Boogie, and The Herb, the Vegetarian Dragon.

There are 2 books that I love and always make me think of my father:

Papa, Please Get the Moon For Me (Eric Carle, illustrator)

The Dance by Richard Paul Evans & Jonathan Linton (I cry every time I read this, no matter the circumstances. I think this book is truly beautiful about the love between father and daughter.)

Good luck!

M.,
I am a consultant for Heritage Makers, you can check out my site at www.storybookwithme.com
Why not make your own Father's day book? My sister did one last year and had her kids draw pictures of their favorite things about their dad... then we scanned them in and made a great book. I have some great templates you could use also.
These books are precious and timeless because they are all about your family!
I hope to hear from you!

_Daddy's Song_ by Leslea Newman and Karen Ritz

It's fun and sweet and has beautiful pictures. I always sing it to my daughter, and I recently overheard my husband singing it to her - using a completely different tune. Very cute and appropriate for a musical family like yours.

My kids sat through a chapter book by age 5. (one or two Chapters at a time) Find out from his mom what one of his favorite books was when he was a kid and get that one.
My kids loved Beverly Cleary or "the Little House on the Pariere" (sp)series. Also if you can find them "the Boxcar Kids" are great. A whole bunch of adventure and about how to take care of and love siblings.
Some more resent books are THe Magic Treehouse or For little girls that are into princesses Gail Carson Lavine has "the princess tales" and a bunch of princess stories my girls love.
You could also get the complete works of the Wizard of Oz stories by L. Frank Balm. (15) They are much tamer then the movie but are wonderful stories. Amazon has them.

P.S. What are their ages?

Hi M.! I specialize in children's books and there are a lot of great titles out there. Probably one of the most well known is "Guess How Much I Love You" by Sam McBratney. It's a story about a father bunny and a baby bunny, trying to outdo each other in how much they love each other. There is a new hardcover called "Daddy Hug" by Tim Warnes, "The Very Best Daddy of All" by Marion Dane Bauer, "My Daddy and Me" by Amy E Sklansky, "A Perfect Father's Day" by Eve Bunting (this one is about a father/4-year-old daughter), and "Without You" by Sarah Weeks ( a sweet story about emperor penguin fathers). There's just a few ideas, happy hunting!

I just saw an article about this today at the doctor's office. I think it was in Wondertime. I'm sorry I don't remember, for sure. It had several great recommendations. Unfortunately, I can't remember them now (too many interruptions). I think they have a website, though.

You can always go to Barnes & Noble. They have a display up right now with just the books you are talking about. They do this for every holiday. I love it! I buy books for my granchildren there every holiday, and I am grateful that they do most of the work for me. I have read some excellent suggestions in all of the responses too! It's great to see all of these responses about reading!

Hi M.-

I do the same thing for my husband (as he does for me). Last year I bought Daddy's Girl by Garrison Keillor: http://www.amazon.com/Daddys-Girl-Garrison-Keillor/dp/078...

""The prettiest legs I ever did see Belong to a lady who belongs to me..." It's sort of a poetry book of very funny stories about his daughter. There's one about bananas that my husband still recites everytime my daughter eats them. "Daddy, Daddy, is there (please say yes) B-A-N-A-N-A-S? Bananas, Oh we love 'em. Bananas, Can't get enough of 'em." (etc) There's one called "won't you dance with me" that is so sweet and funny, the first time he read it to her, it made me teary. A great idea--can't wait to read the rest of the entries!
