I've had three facials done at different places and every time, my face gets red and flaky afterward. I explain that I have sensitive skin, but still end up with disappointing results. I've pretty much given up on facials at this point.
I've never had a facial and am in my mid 30's. I'm starting to think it's time to get a facial. Do I need a few before I will notice an improvement with my skin or will just one improve it? Also I need to find a good place to go. How do you know?

Call your local beauty college. You can get one for free or for very minimal fees while the students use you for a grade and experience.
I have gone twice now and had a microderm and peel at the same visit. I have seen great results. My mom accused me of getting Botox, but nope! it wasn't cheap, but if you are looking for results, it does work fast.
I think a chemical peel is better for long term then facials. Dermtologists do it and it can cost a bit, but over a period of time will do better for your skin then just a facial.
I have severe blackheads so I always get extractions done when I get facials. I don't know exactly what your issue is, but if this is it then you would need several to really notice a difference. Plus, my skin is usually red from the extraction and takes a few days to heal. However, I do notice a difference immediately. My skin is always softer and smoother feeling and less dry and flaky. Plus, I always think I look more awake and refreshed. It really just depends on what issues your trying to get addressed.
You can book a single facial or have a party with a Mary Kay Consultant. Your Consultant should do this for free. Though you and your guests should be prepared to purchase something.
Call your local Mary Kay consultant and you can have one in your home for FREE! INCLUDING the microdermabrasion mentioned below ...with immediate results possible :) MK just won the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval for their Timewise line of products. They're FANTASTIC!
I battled bad skin for a looong time and thought facials were the way to go UNTIL I did microdermabrasion! You're basically sanding the skin but MAN do you see results in the days afterwards. I've done it four times and everytime I have a spare $75 I beeline to get another treatment.
I'm 43 and some of my casual friends thought for SURE I was in my mid 30s like them. I actually had to produce my drivers license to shut them up.
I'd ask around about where to go. I lucked out early on and found a great place years ago.
Your skin will feel so wonderful after your treatment but just like anything the more you do the better it will look. The neck and arm massage is my favorite part of the facial process.
Often they will run specials during the week so call around. Sometimes they are half off!
Good luck and enjoy.
Grandma T is right. They will be watched so they do it correctly. However, I have had one at Coldwater Creek Spa and it was fabulous. I also think it all depends on what you are looking for as far as results. I have had several different types. I felt good and my skin felt clean and bright, but it never too away anything that I could visually see.
I just got my first facial not too long ago, and I saw a difference right afterwards. My skin was so much smoother, and softer, and just felt so clean. I wish I could have one more often. They can get pricey but look up a few in your area and see what specials they have and what they can get for you.
