Definitely stick with the gel glitter and avoid anything from the craft store or that is in powdery loose form...it'll get EVERYWHERE!
Here's a link I found to the glitter gel: http://www.halloweencostumes.com/fairy-glitter-makeup.html
My daughter is having a fairy party on Saturday, and I thought it would fun to put sparkles on the girls' faces, but I have no idea what to use. I know there is real make up that is very sparkly because I have seen younger women wearing it, but I looked at the store and couldn't find any. Can anyone tell me what to look for?

Do not use craft glitter, as it can cause serious irritation and even cuts, especially if it gets in the eyes.
I am a hairstylist/make-up artist and face-painter, so I know there are lots of cosmetic grade glitter out there. Go to you local Sally's, Sephora or Ulta and ask the sales staff, they usually have several brands to choose from. I know Target often as them as well. One brand at Ulta is called NYX, this is what it looks like and comes in a variety of colors:

It usually comes as a loose powder in a little round screw lid topped container, and can be applied with a brush, q-tip or finger.
They make a gel with glitter for girls, you can usually find it at Toys r us. I have seen it in a spray or a tube. Just check the package for age requirements.
How fun!
As much as I don't like the glitter on my kids because then it gets all over and once got in my husband and he had hell coming (lol). I grow up with so many good parties when I was a child and so sad many of those are despairing.
I agree and be careful with what you buy, I would look on party city too, just read the labels and let parents know.
have a blast!

This is the stuff you are looking for ... I remember when this was all the rage for a while in the mid/late 90's. This stuff washes off well and does not get as everywhere as the others and should not irritate the face like other glitter products may.
for ours, i had a makeover station. we sprayed glitter hairspray in thier hair, put bright pink blush on them and glittery lipgloss on lips. I swiped a little of the glittery gloss on the apple of the cheeks on top of the pink. They looked adorable and felt like princesses.
My girls have not wanted this yet. I'm sure it is coming!
I would think that Target has something you can use. Maybe even Party City or a party store.
If my daughter wanted a Fairy Party - I would do wings.
Great idea. Little girls love glitter and make up. There are some fabulous eyeshadows that are super glittery. Go to a Walgreen's for a full selection. You can also consider the glittery nail polish. Usually it's a clear with the glitter specks in it. At a sleepover for my daughter, I used the tiny nail decals/stickers. Once the girls applied their glitter make up, they added the little stickers to their cheeks/face "to complete" the look.
