Eye Leaking?

My almost 2 year old daughter's eye was "leaking" all day yesterday, including a runny nose (both left side) anyway, should I be concerned? She has no known allergies, but that could be it with the season/weather changing-right? Or - is she getting the dreaded 2 year molars? She had a runny nose with each of her teeth so far and since her back molars are the only teeth left to come and probably most painful, would that be enough to make her eye water as well? It is not bothering her at all, nor is it chaging color (pink eye), just looks like she has a tear that won't go away. So odd - thoughts?

What can I do next?

In Ohio?! OH MY!!! I would guess that it's allergies!! Pollen is SOOOO HIGH this year because of the wet winter.

if it's CLEAR or YELLOW - it's allergies - if it's STICKY and keeps her eye shut - then it MIGHT be pink eye - VERY CRUSTY....

Give her children's Claritin - if it goes away - it's allergies...if not - then call your pediatrician and see if there's an eye drop you can give her to help.

GOOD LUCK!

Hi J.,

My best guess is the pollen count...either way, whether it is molars, pollen, allergies, Elderberry extract will help. It is a natural extract of the elderberry that will simply build the immune system. It is only food so you can't overdose on it. You can buy the liquid at a health store and your two year old will be pleased with the taste. My girls always told people that it was the same thing that Mary Poppins gave to Jane and Michael...

I still keep it around the house even though my little ones are almost grown. It's great in Mama's tea as well!

God bless,

M.

As a disabled RN, I agree with Valerie's advice on not giving her anything without seeing a doctor first. This could be anything from allergies,a head cold, teething or anything else. A doctor would know best.

Runny nose and leaky eyes sounds like seasonal allergies to me just because she hasn't had allergies doesn't mean she never will. My oldest didn't develop seasonal allergies until he was 7 while my 4 yr old has always had them. Try zyrtec or clariton just ask your ped for the proper dose for her weight.

Unlike cold medications children's zyrtec and clariton both say ages two and up and they do dose them for younger kids zyrtec is actually approved for under 1 my youngest was prescribed it for allergies as a baby clariton is 2 and up http://www.myfoxboston.com/dpps/news/boy%2C-8%2C-sells-lo...

It could be teething or allergies, but my first thought was conjunctivitis (eye infection/pink eye). The eyes and sinuses are so close together that if she has an eye infection she would have a runny/stuffy nose as well and sometimes being stuffy/runny with a cold or allergies can cause eye infections.

So in other words get her to a doctor to check her out to make sure it's not an eye infection. She's too little for allergy medication. The allergy companies don't even put out age and weight information for the doctors to give out, let alone on the packaging because they don't want the liability of anyone giving their products to children.

Sounds like seasonal allergies. Tree pollen has been high in the last two weeks. Kids have very small sinuses so it leaks out.

my major allergy symptom is watery itchy eyes this time of year - and one is worse. My kids didn't complain at a young age about allergies, but when I finally started them on allergy medicine around 4 or 5 they were so different. They never wanted to play outside when they were little. I think the trees this year are really bad. My eyes started at the end of March, so its been bad for a month. I really would consider trying claritan and see if it helps. It is available over the counter for children. My kids also used eye drops when they were little - patanal. I use Zaditor now because its OTC.
