Explaining the Difference

I like what someone once posted about when their child kept saying "I was just kidding.. I was just joking" in response to different things....

Basically, the parent talked about going and doing something special after dinner, like getting ice cream.. something the child was really wanting.... when the time came to go out, and the child was really anticipating the treat, the parent said... "Oh, sorry.. I was just joking... we're not going anywhere".

The child got the message....

Lying hurts others and/or yourself. It is not the truth.
Jokes and kidding is just for fun.
NOT "personal" jabs nor malicious.

A joke is funny to everyone (leaving out those who don't get it) and hurts no one.

Just kidding is obvious...no one would take you seriously anyhow.

Lying is lying. Telling an untruth is lying, no matter WHAT the reason, no matter HOW small, no matter WHAT it's about, and a lie is NEVER funny, even if you think it is.

A joke, just kidding, and lying are three completely, starkly different things.

we struggle with that one too, we say a joke makes EVERYONE laugh and is silly lying is not telling the truth and it can hurt someone and just kidding is the hardest i am still working on that one the best we have come up with is if you say i burped but you really didnt lol
