Expired Diet Soda

So apparently we have half a case of Diet Dr. Pepper that expired three months ago. I tasted it and it is definitely not good. I know there are uses for regular soda, but not sure about Diet Dr. Pepper. Anyone have any ideas for using it instead of tossing it? I'd hate to waste it. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have heard that Coca Cola is a great cleaner for metals and rust (yuk). Maybe Diet Dr. Pepper would work, too?

I've tasted old diet soda before and it definitely loses it's flavor.
It can taste metallic, maybe slightly salty - just a nasty taste.
If it's in cans, you don't want it sitting around too long - it will eat through the metal sooner or later and will create a mess if it leaks and you didn't find it right away.
If it's in bottles and still has it's fizz, you can get some Mentos, go out in your back yard and create a spectacular soda fountain explosion.
A Mentos dropped into a diet soda has been known to shoot the soda 18 feet into the air (with fresh soda, stale might not be quite as explosive) - it works - we've tried it.
The video shows diet coke, but some have reported that diet Dr Pepper works better.

I would buy another case of the stuff. Then swap out this case for the new case. You would have a receipt and the store could return it to the manufacturer and youget fresh soda. Just a thought.

Is this a "best if used by date" or expiration date? A best if used by date was something Pepsi came up with about 20 yrs ago to convince consumers that if the soda is past that date it's not good. And that is utter nonscense!!! All it does is increse their profits by convincing the consumer to toss it out and buy new. I believe that Dr pepper is a Pepsi product.

try making some pulled pork and put some of the diet dr pepper in the crock pot with the pork roast on low for 12 hours. besides that the only other thing I can tell you is that soda cleans rust stains. good luck

probably if it tastes bad then it would just make ANY dish you make with it taste bad as well because it is expired
