I am reading a book about getting in touch with your Spirit/Spirit Guides...it is all about intuition and that little voice you have....and the little voice is really your intuition/Spirit/God speaking to you. I would like to hear other moms' experiences with this and how to better listen to the Spirit guides.

What can I do next?

you will KNOW when it happens. & please be very aware that many loved ones & friends will not believe you. I am very fortunate that both my Mom & one of my oldest friends.....share what I experience. AND please also be very aware that this does not always lead to "good" experiences. You have to accept both the "good" & the "bad".

WOW, I was just thinking about how some of the moms here might respond to a quesion such as this, but I hesitated in posting due to some strong religious beliefs, but if the can of worms has been opened ... let it be opened in loving light.

I have walked with one of my spirit guides led by an Indian Shaman, I actually wrote a short story in middle school about another's life not knowing until after the fact. I speak to my guides and my child's guides, everyday asking for the highest and best good for both of us to come. I know my son is aware of his guides because he gets a jealous look in his eyes when he sees me acknowledge them. As if he thought they were just for him (he he I get to talk to them forever, I am mommy) I look at it as another way to communicate with him, they pass things along quite often. All of my guides stop me before I do something STUPID (a couple times a day) and encourage me when I am about to do something really tough and remind me of who I am and that I can do it. When I do not hear anyone's voice in my corner I wait and listen for thier's cause it is always there, helping to fine tune me.
Wack job you may think I am, my mother is worse mind you and I call her a wack job, lovingly of course, but this is the one thing I KNOW for sure that no one can take from me ... I walk with a white tiger by my side, an Old Indian Chief who fought for his people, a very old friend that I named my son after, and many other loving enteties who carry me thru until I take a break in heaven, and regroup for my next journey. No matter what you choose to call it/them someone/something is always looking out.

After burying two of our children I spent hours before the blessed sacrament. It was very difficult and I just kept asking The Blessed Mother to take me to her Son and place me at His feet and ask him to give me hope. As I sat I noticed a pile of books at the end of the pew. I picked up the top on and randomly opened it. It opened to a novena to Our Lady of Hope. As I read I found that Her feast day is my Birthday.

While delivering my daughter, who had already passed away, we decided to name her after St. Theresa. St Theresa promised to ask Christ for favors and shower them down like roses from heaven. My little girl was born on Mother's Day and I ask the Mother of my Lord to please take her as her gift for Mother's day. On that day I received two dozen roses.

For me when I get a message it comes in very STRONG. Its hard to explain but its a strong sense of something. ( and its hard to dismiss it )

I've always had that I think but its only been a few years ago that I've learned to reckonize it. I can be hard-headed and haven't always listened, but like I said I'm learning to reckonize it and LISTEN. :)

Just be careful in what you open yourself up to.

Blessings to you.

I have a girlfriend who experiences this spiritual connection quite often. It started small and sporadically, like a test and now occurs most frequently around her menses. She also lives over an old burial site. It can be very exhausting and stressful for her at times. . Be very cautious and aware of what you ask and allow into you life. It has not been all easy and pleasant, like Sue suggests below.

I believe there are those spiritually gifted individuals who receive divine guidance. As if they are truly a vessel in this world. It is a remarkable gift if used in the name of the Lord or for His purposes. If mis-managed, I think it can easily lead down many wrong paths.

My church believes in the fact that the Holy Spirit or Ghost can help everyone at times of need of great stress, sorrow or agitation. We know that you can be blessed with the gift of the Holy Ghost and have the spirit of God with you at all times and help you in the small things as well.

One of my favorite small needy experiences with the HG was when I needed to go somewhere and couldn't find my keys. As soon as I finished my prayer for help to find them, the HG voice in my head, told me I really needed to go to church more and of course I responded rather cockily to it saying, Well, yes, I would need my keys to do that!
But it repeated that I needed to go to church more...
I think I actually said, Fine! I'll go more, but where are my keys now?
The HG voice immediately said,
"Okay, good, they're under that wal-mart bag on the kitchen table."
I swear I had looked there before, if I hadn't asked and listened it would have been hours before I looked there again.

There was another time when I was a teenager that I actually ignored it telling me I should take another street to a destination and I was hit, totaled my car and hurt my sternum that I still have problems with. When I hear it now while driving I'll take crazy ways home, but I always feel better when I make it home in one piece.

Listen to your heart, the holy ghost will always guide you in correct way to go. Sometimes you have to turn off all worldly devices and listen closely. Sometimes it's something that you don't want to hear, sometimes it will tell you to change your course or take longer to get somewhere, but it can be a really great experience when you actually listen.

love to you,
J.

I'll give you an example of intuition I had around 5 years ago. I was moving some stuff into this apartment that we were going to be staying in temporarily so as I walked outside the door I looked to the right and there were like four guys walking toward me past the next door. Immediately something told me "go back inside and lock the door, NOW". So I did. Not 3 seconds later I heard gunshots, I had no idea if they were trying to shoot into my apt. or what. It turns out they were shooting into the other apt., the victim just ran but wasn't hurt. I was freaked, the only thing I was thinking was what if I had just proceeded to walk back to the truck. Oprah had a show a while back where someone had written a book on it but I don't remember the author or title or anything, I just remember that I could relate.

Other than that, there are so many instances where I know that God is there, so many things that make me think, geez, if I had left a couple minutes earlier such and such could have happened. One time I was leaving for work in the morning and I had the hardest time backing the truck out of the yard/driveway. So I'm driving down the road almost there, I also had my son with me, there's this car coming toward me and I'm thinking that car looks like it's in my lane but it can't be. Seconds later it veers off the the left and runs into a yard. I think that year I was almost in 3 head on collisions.

A lot of times things just work out after worrying that it might not and I know that God is behind that too. I don't know what advice to give you as far as listening better except just be open to it and you'll definitely know, it's that gut feeling.

Hi J.B., What a great question. I think you are going to get some strong opinions on this topic because of the words Spirit Guides, but I have never been one to judge because of names. I like to refer to it as intuition, it is more politically correct :) IMO we are all born with intuition, but for some reason it is frowned upon and we usually stop using it as we get older. Ever see an animal take off running from you, even though they didn't see you or hear you, that's because they still use their intuition for survival. The funny feeling you can get in your stomache before you walk into a place, pay attention and don't go in. The creeps you get from a person, stay away. The desire to stick another $20 in the slot machine, well maybe, lol. I always tell my son if you have a funny feeling about something, don't do it. This spring there were a bunch off boys in announcer booth at a baseball game. My son was up there and having a great time. We smelled something coming from the booth and I ran up there to find the boys were spraying paint thinner and other aerisols and the place was filled with fumes. I told the boys to get out of there right away and looked and looked for my son. I found him outside of the booth playing by himself in the grass. I asked him what happened, he said he didn't know, but for some reason he felt like someone was telling him to leave the booth, it was not safe, so he went to play by himself way before they had got in into the cans of paint. He listen to his instinct even though he could not explain it.

When I was young I met with an Indian Medicine man who took me on a guided mediation to find my spirit guides. Once I found then I had to learn to listen to them. The first time I heard them I could feel a knot in my stomach, and a voice telling me to go home. I was 13, and with friends, and did not want to look like a geek, so I ignored it, and was raped later that night at a party. From than on I have always trusted that voice, and it has yet to turn me wrong.

While working at a breakfast restaurant, I became overwhelmed with feeling unwell, shaky, nauseaus and a panicked feeling. I felt like I had to get out of the restaurant right at that moment. I told my manager that I did not feel well and that I had to leave. I felt fine once I got home. An hour later a plane crashed into the restaurant. I have never experienced that unwell feeling before that day or again after, I think it must have been a warning that I needed to get out of the restaurant.

I agree with Christine that you can have a strong relationship with God and still have these experiences. I am one of those and I talk with God often but still have a lot of experiences. When you are seeking it out you have to be careful what you ask for because not all spirits you come in contact with are going to be there for a good reason. I have always had great intuitions and hear voices and sometimes even see ghosts. I was taught that if you feel a ghost in your house and questioning whether they are there for bad reasoning to say "If you are not here for my higher good you need to leave right now" and ask God to send his protection. They are not allowed to stay at that point. I've grown up around psychics and had many experiences where had I not listened to the voice or the feeling I could have ended up in a pretty bad situation. Not all spirits are bad and yes you can talk with the dead. I've done it many times and I don't remember my great grandmother being a demon. There is a lot about the spirit world we don't understand as humans and may never understand. In the bible it mentions that when God comes back he is first going to take his children that have already passed away and then he will take the Christians who are still alive. I do think some people go straight to heaven and others God sends back to watch over us. I could be wrong but I could also be right. My grandmother has a Metaphysical Fair she puts on 4 times a year, one coming up in November, and there is a lot of information there. One booth has all different books that talk about any and all questions you might have, lots of different authors, etc. Know what you are doing and how to protect yourself from demons and bad spirits before you really start getting into it because those definitely try to get in. If interested I'll get the date. It's usually at the hotel near Highland Mall. Used to be a Hilton but has changed a few times. I think she has a website now as well.
