My husband and I are going on a date this weekend (YAY!) and we want to go to a new restaurant and try a new ethnic food. We usually do Italian, Mexican, Japanese Steakhouses and Chinese food. Does anyone have something they would recommend? We love spicy food by the way.

Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the suggestions! Now we have a lot of different places we'll be trying :) Unfortunately, I got sick this weekend so we couldn't go out but we're going to go this weekend. I think we're going to try Indian foods first. Thanks again ladies!

Ethiopian is good if you can find it. You could look for a Thai restaurant.

I recommend the Bosphorous Cafe on South East St.
It is a Turkish restaurant with DELICIOUS food.
I recommend the appetizer sampler, and the Doner (gyro) plate, as well as the Kofte Plate and their delicious Baklava for dessert.
Also good is the Luxor (Egyptian/Mediterranean) on Virginia Ave. in Fountain Square.
Enjoy!

Not sure if you have an Ethiopian restaurant, but that would be my vote! Anything with "Wat" at the end is a nice spicy dish. Doro Wat or Yega Wat, for example.

Vietnamese food is fantastic! So is Thai. We love Indian as well -and you can get some amazing spice combinations from Indian food. Our current fave is Korean BBQ. If you have one near you -it's yummy and great fun. There's a brazier in the middle of your table, and they bring out plates of meat you order along with about 20 dishes of accompanyments -pickled relishes, kimchi, peppers, condiments, etc.

Korean Barbecue is awesome! I used to live in Columbus, Ohio, but I never had it until we moved back to Indiana, so I can't recommend any restaurants there. However, if you can find a good one, it's well worth it to try it out. For the barbecue, they put you at a table with a grill (either gas or charcoal) built right into the middle of it. You choose at least a couple of different types of meat, and then, you cook it yourself right there at the table! They also bring out all sorts of yummy side dishes that can be completely foreign to someone new to the cuisine. I suggest starting with Bulgogee (barbecue beef) for the barbecue and Chop Chae (kind of like stir fry noodles with beef and lots of veggies) for an already made dish. Also, Yuk Gae Jong (spicy soup with beef and veggies) is really good. You can get rice, and some of the side dishes include pickled radishes, Kimchee radishes, Kimchee cucumbers, Kimchee cabbage, bean sprouts that are crunchy and super yummy, and lots of other items. Kimchee is the spicy sauce used in Korean cooking, and it can have quite a kick. I was recently at the restaurant in our new town (a favorite among the moms in my group), and I tried the Kimchee Dolseot Bebeem Bop. It comes out in this hot kettle, and it's basically rice with all sorts of things piled on top--beef, veggies, a little bit of seaweed, Kimchee (the sauce), and an egg right on top. You stir everything together before eating it. So good!
In Columbus, if you've never had Thai food, I highly recommend Thai Lotus (I think that's the name). Thai food has a lot of great noodle dishes, including Pad Thai (has peanuts, sprouts, usually your choice of meat, noodles, and a lovely sauce that can be made as spicy as you want) and Pad See Ew (wider noodles with a brown sauce, your choice of meat, and broccoli and maybe carrots). And, if you like tea, try a Thai Iced Tea--you pour condensed milk into it! It's so yummy! :)

So, tell us...where did you go??
Another recommendation for the future is Greek -- my husband and I recently were told to try "Anna's Greek Restaurant" on Sawmill, and LOVED it! EXCELLENT food, so many great choices, price is reasonable and atmosphere is quaint and great service.
